BOSTON -- It seems that the only thing that could tame the red-hot bat of Wilson Ramos was the injury bug.
The Rays' catcher was in the midst of another big day at the plate in Tampa Bay's 12-6 win Saturday over the Red Sox at Fenway Park, but after picking up his third hit of the day, a single to the center-field wall, he was removed for pinch-runner Jesus Sucre after being checked out by manager Kevin Cash and a trainer.
"He had a sore groin. We're confident that we caught it in time," said Cash. "He had talked about it in the at-bat before. That's why he didn't try to go to second, very smart on his part. We got him out of the game."
He was taken out as a precaution and is day to day, though his manager said he could be available Sunday, but only under dire circumstances.
"I would imagine he'd just be day to day. I think he'll be fine to catch tomorrow, if needed," added Cash. "He won't, but in an emergency."

Ramos got the Tampa Bay bats going with a leadoff double in the second inning, then hit a majestic home run over the Green Monster in the third.
It was the third straight game in which he had hit a home run, making him the first catcher in the Rays' 20-plus-year history to accomplish the feat.
Per Statcast™, the double came off his bat at 107.6 mph, the home run at 107 mph and the single at 108.3 mph, just the third time since 2015 that a Rays player registered an exit velocity of 107 mph or higher on three batted balls in the same game.
While he was certainly hitting the ball hard, he was also getting hit hard by it while behind the dish, being on the wrong end of a few hard fouls that found his body, though none being the reason for his removal from the game.
