July 2: RHP cleared for next start
Manager Mike Shildt said Tuesday that he expected Vásquez would take his next turn in the rotation, on Friday at home against the D-backs, despite being struck in the right forearm by a line drive during the Padres' 9-2 victory in Boston on June 28. The right-hander exited the game immediately alongside a team trainer, though X-rays came back negative and Shildt expects him to be fine by his next outing.

“Nobody’s overly concerned that it’s going to be something that was going to carry forward in any great detail,” he said.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

2B (left shoulder fracture)
Expected return: July
Bogaerts had a “favorable report” on his most recent CT scan, manager Mike Shildt said on July 2. Bogaerts has been running the bases, taking light grounders and is cleared to take batting practice against high-velocity pitches and breaking balls, Shildt said. Most likely, Bogaerts will embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso later in the week of July 2. He says that when he returns, he expects to use a two-handed follow-through, rather than letting his right hand come off the bat. Bogaerts suffered the injury on May 20 in Atlanta when he dove to stop a Ronald Acuña Jr. grounder to his left side and awkwardly rolled on his left arm. (Last updated: July 2)

C (left thumb bruise)
Expected return:
Possibly July 5
Campusano began a rehab stint with Single-A Lake Elsinore on July 1, serving as the designated hitter in his first game and going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Manager Mike Shildt said the plan was for Campusano to start at catcher in the July 2 game. If all goes well, he should rejoin the club for the start of the next homestand on July 5. Campusano sustained the injury while catching a pitch on June 20. He was scratched from the lineup the next day and subsequently placed on the IL. (Last updated: July 2)

LHP (left elbow inflammation)
Expected return: Second half
Cosgrove was roughed up for four runs over one-third of an inning in the Padres' win over the Nationals on June 26, and it was later revealed that he was pitching through an elbow issue. Manager Mike Shildt did not offer specifics on a return timetable for Cosgrove, who will be shut down from throwing indefinitely. An integral member of the Padres' bullpen in 2023, Cosgrove has allowed 19 earned runs in 14 2/3 innings this season -- after allowing just 10 earned runs across 51 1/3 frames a year ago. RHP (left groin strain)
Expected return: July, possibly
Darvish was slated to return to the Padres' rotation on June 25, but that plan was scrapped as he dealt with a bout of right elbow inflammation. Manager Mike Shildt noted on June 28 that Darvish had resumed playing light catch. The veteran right-hander threw 49 pitches in a June 19 rehab start with High-A Fort Wayne. Prior to landing on the IL with his groin strain, Darvish had also spent time on the IL earlier this year with a neck issue. (Last updated: June 28)

OF (right femoral stress reaction)
Expected return:
Second half
Tatis spent most of the first half playing through tightness in his right quad area -- and imaging later revealed a stress reaction in his femur. The injury didn't impact him much at the plate, but it clearly affected his running. The Padres did not offer a timetable for Tatis' potential return, though Tatis said he expects to be out through the All-Star break and potentially longer. (Last updated: June 24)

60-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: Second half, potentially August
Musgrove played catch for the first time in his buildup on June 24 after several days spent throwing weighted plyometric balls in the team's weight room. He said he expects at least a week or two of playing catch before he could return to the mound for a bullpen session. Musgrove was scratched from his scheduled start on June 1 and placed on the IL with elbow inflammation and soreness in his right triceps. An MRI revealed a bone spur that Musgrove said has been causing the inflammation and discomfort. He received a PRP injection in addition to a prior cortisone shot. In a procedural move, Musgrove was transferred to the 60-day IL on June 28. (Last updated: June 28)

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: 2025
Patiño underwent Tommy John surgery on April 30, putting an end to his 2024 season before it began. The 24-year-old made two appearances in Spring Training before opening the season on the IL. The Padres, who originally signed Patiño as an amateur free agent before dealing him to Tampa Bay in the 2020 Blake Snell trade, claimed Patiño off waivers from the White Sox in December.
