TORONTO -- Kevin Kiermaier left Sunday afternoon's game in the eighth inning with an apparent left-shoulder injury after making a pair of stellar catches to rob the Blue Jays of base hits.
The 28-year-old outfielder ran hard into the right-center field wall to rob Randal Grichuk of a base hit in the fourth inning. The play was a 5 star catch that forced Kiermaier to spring 87 feet in five seconds. He remained in the game for four innings, but he was pulled from the game in the middle of his eighth inning at-bat.

"It hurt right after, and it was stiff ever since that moment," Kiermaier said. "I had another at-bat, and then my last at-bat, I was pretty set on ambushing the guy and I realized it wasn't a fastball. I took it and it just sent a jolt of pain through that area that I hit on the wall, and I knew it was going to be sore the rest of the game. But like I said, on a pitch that I didn't swing at, that scared me."
Kiermaier made another outstanding catch to close out the third inning when he snagged a line drive from Jonathan Davis just before it hit the turf. Kiermaier needed to go 37 feet in 3.1 seconds to snare the ball with a 47 percent catch probability, according to Statcast™.
The Rays' center fielder is a two-time Gold Glove Award winner and he has the fourth highest Defensive Runs Saved of any active outfielder in his career, according to FanGraphs. Despite missing much of the early part of this season, he ranks 28th in Outs Above Average with five, according to Statcast™.
