Texas Rangers Youth Academy

The Texas Rangers Youth Academy offers year-round baseball and softball training programs for athletes ages 7-18 at no cost. Five-week programming sessions take place each winter, spring, summer, and fall for athletes interested in improving their game.

Athletes will learn from the Youth Academy’s coaching staff, whose experience ranges from collegiate standouts to competing at the professional level. Each training group has drills tailored to their age and skill level, ranging from the basic principles of hitting, fielding and baserunning, to more advanced skills, including mental aspects of the game and increasing baseball and softball IQ.

Major League Baseball's Nike Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program is designed to give youth from underserved and diverse communities the opportunity to play baseball and softball while encouraging academic success and teaching the value of teamwork.

The Texas Rangers Youth Academy’s summer Nike RBI League, one of nearly 200 Nike RBI Leagues worldwide, is comprised of teams competing in the junior and senior baseball and softball divisions. Teams practice and play competitive games multiple days per week from mid-May through July and conclude with post-season play, presented by Nike.

As part of the Rangers Nike RBI Program, at the end of each season, two graduating athletes are awarded $5,000 Rangers Nike RBI college scholarships for their work on and off the field.

Additionally, the Texas Rangers Youth Academy assembles All-Star baseball and softball teams each summer to compete in the Nike RBI Southwest Regional Tournament with hopes to reach MLB's Nike RBI World Series in Vero Beach.

Top-performing Texas Rangers Youth Academy athletes are regularly invited to participate at no cost in several invitation-only training camps, seminars, combines, scouting events, and more.

Programs attended by Texas Rangers Youth Academy athletes include MLB Develops events like the Breakthrough Series, Elite Development Invitational, Dream Series, Trailblazer Series, MLB GRIT, States Play and Hank Aaron Invitational.

Rangers Academy athletes have also participated in USA Baseball and USA Softball National team identification events and various skills combines, including the Dairy Max Baseball & Softball Factory Showcase.

Throughout the year, Texas Rangers Youth Academy athletes receive the opportunity to participate in several youth competitions and tournaments.

The Youth Academy annually hosts the local and regional rounds of competition for Major League Baseball’s Jr. Home Run Derby and Pitch, Hit & Run skills competition, with regional winners receiving the chance to advance to the national finals at a Major League Baseball Jewel Event.

Additionally, the Rangers Youth Academy participates in baseball and softball tournaments throughout the year, including MLB’s All-Star Week Commissioner’s Cup and Jennie Finch Classic, as well as several local tournaments hosted by the Youth Academy and various third-party organizations.

The Texas Rangers Youth Academy regularly recognizes its athletes for on and off-field accomplishments through various awards and scholarships.

Awards and recognitions include the Youth of the Year award, Whataburger Rising Stars of the Month, and Nike RBI League scholarships.

The Rangers Youth Academy Youth of the Year award is given annually to a dedicated Youth Academy athlete who excels on the field and in the community, and serves as a role model to other Academy members.

The Whataburger Rising Star of the Month award is given to a group of athletes at the end of each summer to recognize performance on and off the field with a focus in the areas of sportsmanship, on-field play, teamwork, and displays of perseverance and dedication.

The Rangers Foundation and Youth Academy also fund two $5,000 college scholarships for graduating athletes in the Rangers Nike RBI League. Additionally, Rangers Youth Academy Nike RBI participants have the opportunity to apply for Major League Baseball’s $20,000 RBI for RBI Scholarship.

The Texas Rangers Youth Academy goes beyond baseball and softball to help the West Dallas community flourish with help from partner Buckner International.

Buckner International, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of orphans, vulnerable children, families and senior adults in the U.S. and internationally, operates a satellite Family Hope Center in the Globe Life Training Center at the Youth Academy.

Throughout the year, Buckner offers a variety of youth programs, including academic assistance, one-on-one and group enrichment, summer camp and life skills programs. Additionally, Buckner provides adult programs in English and Spanish, such as job skills training, financial empowerment courses, family coaching and parent support.

The Rangers Youth Academy also partners with Buckner to support families across the community through special events like school supply donations, meal distributions, holiday celebrations, and more.

The Texas Rangers Youth Academy hosts numerous community and distribution events throughout the year to aid Texas Rangers Youth Academy families, Buckner International families, and West Dallas residents in need.

The Youth Academy works with community partners on several events, including back-to-school distributions, voter registration events, food distributions, and more. Additionally, the Rangers Foundation and Youth Academy host baseball and softball equipment distribution events and holiday celebrations for its athletes throughout the year.

The Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex, presented by Toyota, is a state-of-the-art facility in West Dallas.

The indoor Globe Life Training Center houses the Adrián Beltré Field, the Rougned Odor Weight Room, locker rooms, Cole Hamels Classrooms, QuickTrip Computer Lab, offices and meeting spaces. The complex also includes five outdoor baseball and softball fields, bullpens and the Prince Fielder and Shin-Soo Choo Batting Cages.
