Twins place Kirilloff on 10-day injured list, designate Cotton for release or assignment
Larnach recalled, Rodríguez contract selected from Triple-A St. Paul
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed outfielder Alex Kirilloff on the 10-day Injured List with right wrist inflammation and designated right-handed pitcher Jharel Cotton for release or assignment.
Kirilloff, 24, played in five games with one run scored. Cotton, 30, made two appearances for the Twins, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings with no hits allowed, four walks and two strikeouts.
To replace Kirilloff and Cotton on the 28-man roster, the Twins have recalled outfielder Trevor Larnach and selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Dereck Rodríguez from Triple-A St. Paul.
Larnach, 25, played in five games for the Saints, going 2-for-19 (.105) with two RBI and two walks. He made his major league debut on May 8, 2021 and hit .223 (58-for-260) with 12 doubles, seven home runs, 28 RBI, 29 runs scored, 31 walks and a .322 on-base percentage in 79 games for the Twins last season.
Rodríguez, 29, made one start for the Saints on Friday at Louisville, pitching 4.0 scoreless innings with one hit allowed, two walks and five strikeouts. The 6-foot, 208-pound right-hander has appeared in 51 career major league games (35 starts) all with the San Francisco Giants from 2018-2020, going 12-15 with a 4.27 ERA (221.1 IP, 105 ER), 75 walks and 162 strikeouts. He is the son of Hall of Fame catcher Iván Rodríguez and was originally selected by the Twins in the sixth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Monsignor Edward Pace High School in Miami Gardens, Florida. He will be in uniform for today’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and wear jersey number 32.
