Pitched for Hanamaki Higashi High School in Japan where he led the team to a runner-up finish at the national high school invitational in April, 2009, and to the semifinals in the national championship in August, 2009...Became the top pick in the 2009 NPB Draft by the Saitama Seibu Lions... Is the seventh Japanese-born player to play for the Blue Jays, and the fifth pitcher to do so, joining Mike Nakamura (2004), Tomo Ohka (2007), Ryota Igarashi (2012) and Shun Yamaguchi (2020).
