Resides in Quitman, La. with his wife, Vicki, and daughter, Olivia, born in March of 2002...graduated from Quitman (LA) High School in 1987...attended a Phillies tryout camp in 1987, threw to three batters and was drafted by Philadelphia two weeks later...scouted by Don Williams (Phillies)...played baseball, basketball and ran track in high school and was an All-State and All-District selection in both baseball and basketball...enjoys hunting, fishing and playing golf...patterned his pitching style after seeing Pittsburgh's Kent Tekulve pitch in the 1979 World Series.
2004
Spent the majority of the season at Triple-A Albuquerque while having 18 relief outings for Florida in the early stages of the season.
Went 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA for the Marlins from 5/13-6/24 after being selected from Albuquerque on 5/12.
Began his major league season with four straight scoreless outings from 5/13-18 (3.1 IP), but then allowed 11 runs on 18 hits over his next 14 games (15.0 IP), a 6.60 ERA.
Collected his only win on 5/30 vs. the Mets, working out of a blown save suffered as a result of a run scoring single and solo HR by Jason Phillips.

Saw 15 games with the Marlins, recording a 1-0 mark with a 5.27 ERA after joining the club on 8/24... allowed eight runs over 13.2 innings with Florida...replaced RHP Josh Beckett, who was placed on the DL...made his first Marlins appearance on 8/25 at SD and collected the victory, tossing one perfect inning...was his first Major League outing since 7/23/01 at BAL and his first victory since 9/18/96 vs. Florida, with Philadelphia -- ended a span of 29 games pitched without a victory...saw his ERA jump from 0.00 to 9.53 after two outings (9/4 at NYM and 9/6 at PIT) in which he allowed six runs on five hits over 1.1 innings, a 40.50 ERA...followed those outings with four straight scoreless appearances, 9/8-14 (2H, 1 BB, 4 SO)...allowed two runs over his final nine games of the season, spanning 8.0 innings, a 2.25 ERA...issued one walk and struck out nine over that span, including no walks over his last eight games (9/12-28) and two strikeouts in a game three times (9/8 at PIT, 9/25 at MON and 9/28 vs. PHI)...finished the year with four straight scoreless outings, 9/19-29, allowing two hits with five strikeouts...spent the majority of the season at AAA Calgary, pitching 56 games for the Cannons and posting a 5-2 record with 14 saves and a 2.96 ERA...completed his season with the Cannons by throwing 13 consecutive scoreless outings, from 7/21-8/22, allowing eight hits and nine walks with 20 strikeouts over 18.0 innings...overall, allowed one run over 25.0 innings (0.36 ERA) in his final 18 games and two runs in 42.1 innings (0.45 ERA) over his last 30 contests...registered seven saves over 10 games pitched, from 6/18-7/14...allowed one run in 14.2 innings over that stretch, a 0.61 ERA...struck out a seasonhigh five batters in 2.0 innings on 6/18 at Sacramento.
