After signing a minor league contract with San Diego, pitched the entire season at Triple-A Portland. Was 4-1 with a 2.66 ERA (21 ER/71.IP) over 49 appearances (one start). ... Limited Pacific Coast League foes to a .221 batting average. ... Notched a 1.69 ERA (8 ER/42.2 IP) in 26 home games...batters hit .181. ... Combined for a 1-0 record and 1.29 ERA (5 ER/35.0 IP) in 22 games (one start) in May and June...fanned 32 with six walks. ... Was 3-1 with a 2.21 ERA (13 ER/53.0 IP) the first half of the season.

Spent almost the entire minor league season with Triple-A Fresno...was with the Giants for a 2-day stint May 4-5, and was a September call-up...Did not allow a run in 8 of 12 ML appearances, going 1-1 with 4.22 ERA...Earned win Sep. 17 at Arizona, his first big league victory since Aug. 4, 2005 at Colorado...Appeared in a team-high 48 games out of Grizzlies bullpen, going 1-6 with 1 save and 4.17 ERA...Made 10 appearances for the Scottsdale Scorpions in Arizona Fall League, going 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in 9 innings.
2006
Was on 1st career Opening Day roster, but struggled during 2nd ML season as he continued comeback from elbow surgery...was touched for 7.71 ERA (14er, 16.1ip) and .383 avg. against (23-for-60) over his 1st 19 outings, and was optioned to double-A Connecticut following May 24 game...pitched in 28 games for Defenders, going 1-4 with save and 4.73 ERA...was recalled when rosters expanded Sept. 1, but yielded 11.37 mark (8er, 6.1ip) over 8 outings.
2005
Rookie became integral piece of SF's revamped bullpen, but had season cut short with right elbow inflammation...was placed on 15-day Disabled List Aug. 12, and although he was activated Sept. 2, appeared in only 1 more game...underwent arthroscopic surgery on right elbow Sept. 30, debridement procedure performed by team physician Dr. Ken Akizuki...sinkerball specialist was excellent when healthy, as he ranked 2nd among NL relievers for groundball pct. (77.6%, 83-of-107)...also tied for 5th by inducing opponents to ground into 9 double plays, while his 2.56 ERA would have ranked 15th among senior circuit relievers with enough innings to qualify...stranded 82.6 pct. of inherited runners (19-for-23), which would have been good for 6th in league had he qualified...did not allow earned run in 36 of 45 outings, tied for 11th most ever by SF rookie...was pitching best ball prior to injury, posting 1.83 ERA (4er, 19.2ip) in his final 24 outings (beginning June 23)...worked in just one game after being reinstated from DL, tossing 1.0 inning Sept. 3 at Arizona...earned Harry S. Jordan Award in Spring Training for top 1st-year player, forging 0.84 ERA (1er, 10.2ip) in 9 Cactus League outings, however began season in minors...opened campaign at triple-A Fresno, before 1st ML call-up April 27-30...was recalled 2nd time from Fresno May 10, and was with big club remainder of season.
2004
Logged 2nd straight season with sub-3.00 ERA, combining for 3-5 mark with 4 saves and 2.67 ERA (23er, 77.1ip) in 55 relief outings for double-A Norwich and triple-A Fresno...bullpen stalwart opened campaign with Navigators, posting 3 saves while fashioning 2.35 mark (17er, 65.0ip) over 42 outings...earned late-season promotion to Pacific Coast League, where he went 1-1 with save and 3.45 ERA (6er, 15.2ip) in 13 contests...pitched for Grand Canyon in Arizona Fall League following season, fashioning 2-0 mark with 3.63 ERA (9er, 22.1ip) in 16 games.
