Ruddy Joraider Lugo
Ruddy is the younger brother of former Ray and current Red Sox shortstop Julio Lugo...May 7 of last season at Oakland was a special moment for the brothers - the first time they appeared on the field together and the first time they ever played competitively together...they are the only set of brothers to play together in Tampa Bay's brief history.
2007

First season above Double-A the 26-year-old led all AL rookies with 64 appearances, tying Esteban Yan's club rookie record (1998), and led all major league rookies with 85.0 relief innings, just shy of Yan's 88.2...in fact, is the 4th-highest relief total in club history behind Rick White (105.2 in 1999), Travis Harper (93.0 in 2003) and Yan...Pitched to a 3.81 ERA, tops among TB relief pitchers...only DET Joel Zumaya (1.94) was better among AL rookie relievers...his .240 opponents batting average was also best among Rays relievers (actually tied with Scott Kazmir for lowest on the staff), bettered by only Zumaya (.187) among AL rookie relievers...His ERA stood at a season-high 6.08 on May 17 thru his first 18 big league outings following a loss to the White Sox at home (23.2-IP, 24-H, 16-ER)...allowed just 2 ER over his next 16 apps through June 20 (18.2-IP), a 0.96 ERA and pitched to a 2.93 ERA the rest of the way (61.1-IP, 51-H, 20-ER)...finished the season strong, pitching to a 2.35 ERA over his final 13 apps from Aug. 31 (15.1-IP, 4-ER)...Worked 2.0 or more innings 18 times including a season-most 3.1 on two occasions: June 1 at Baltimore and Aug. 12 at Oakland - tied with Brian Meadows for the longest outing by a Rays reliever on the season...Left June 20 game vs. ARI with a mid-back strain...a 3-week DL stint followed (June 21-July 13)...Compiled a 13.2 inning scoreless streak over an 8-game stretch, Aug 4-23, 3rd longest on the club this season (Kazmir-18.0, Shields 16.0)...Made his ML debut Opening Day, April 3 at Baltimore, pitching 1.1...allowed a pair of runs on 3 hits, including a Jeff Conine solo HR. » Suffered the 7-4 loss April 18 at Boston, his first big league decision...both his batters faced reached and scored...Earned his first major league win May 20 vs. FLA with a scoreless 9th (1-K)...TB won in the bottom of the frame on Branyan's walk-off HR....42 of his 64 outings were scoreless...Had much more success away from Tropicana Field (2.89) than at home (4.93)...also pitched to a 1.90 ERA during the day and 4.55 at night...Pitched better against left-handed hitters, yielding just a .213 avg.
