After DeJean went 3-1 with a 3.03 ERA in 1998, Mike and the Rockies agreed to terms on a three-year contract Feb. 9, less than a week before spring training opened...On May 28 at Philadelphia, he retired all five batters faced in a two-run game...two days later in the series finale, he entered with the bases loaded and two out, with the tying run at third, and induced a foul-pop from Mike Lieberthal...the Rockies won, 1-0...From June 8-13, in three games, he retired 10 in a row...In August, he compiled a 24.75 ERA...after six earned runs Aug. 13 vs. Montreal, he went on the 15-day DL (right elbow tendinitis)...From May 21 to season's end, only one of his final 15 inherited runners crossed the plate.

1998

DeJean appeared in a career-best 59 games before a broken left hand ended his year, Sept. 1...Mike made an emergency start June 20 vs. Los Angeles, when a finger blister forced John Thomson out of the rotation...it was DeJean's first start anywhere since 1989 at Mississippi Delta College...He built a 12.2 scoreless innings streak over nine appearances, July 11-28...In his final three appearances, he allowed 11 hits and six earned runs in 3.2 IP...a frustrated DeJean punched his locker at County Stadium, Sept. 1 and suffered a broken left hand (fifth metacarpal)...Dr. Frank Scott inserted two screws and a plate into the hand Sept. 4 at Denver's Rose Medical Center.

1997

Mike opened the year at Colorado Springs (AAA), but on May 2 earned his first trip to the majors, where he closed the year...he made his big-league debut May 2 vs. Philadelphia, a scoreless inning...he didn't allow an earned run in his first seven games (13.0 IP)...DeJean posted his first career win May 12 at Philadelphia; he induced his first hitter into a double play, then retired the next nine...he recorded his first save May 31 at Florida, escaping a bases-loaded situation in the ninth...from June 21 - July 10, he went 12.1 straight scoreless frames...he was on the DL July 18 - Aug. 7 (inflamed right elbow), rehabbing at New Haven (AA)...DeJean closed the year with seven scoreless appearances (8.0 innings).

1996

DeJean began the year at Triple-A, then moved to New Haven in late April...he returned in mid-June to Colorado Springs to finish the season.

He spent the entire season in the Eastern League, working as Norwich's closer.
