Luis Wilfredo Rivas...Wife's name is Regina...Has two sons; Luigi (1/21/03) and Davinny (4/21/06)...Attended Licencia Baranda High School in Venezuela, where he played baseball and basketball...Was ranked by Baseball America as Minnesota's fourth-best prospect prior to 2001 season...Rated by same publication as the Best Defensive shortstop and having the Best Infield Arm in the Midwest League in 1997...Named Gulf Coast League's best prospect by Baseball America following '96 season... Played for current Pirates manager John Russell while with New Britain in 1999 and 2000.
2007
Spent entire season with Buffalo (Indians' AAA)...Was named to the International League mid-season All-Star team...Was also named the Bisons Comeback Player-of-the-Year...Made 59 appearances at shortstop and 49 appearances at second base...Hit nine of his 11 home runs off right-handed pitchers...Batted .306 (30-for-98) in the second half of the season after hitting .250 (78-for-312) prior to the break...Hit safely in 12 of his first 15 contests, going 20-for-63 (.317)...Fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle while knocking in a season-high four runs on 5/2 at Syracuse...Batted .293 (29-for-99) with five doubles, five home runs and 13 RBI in 25 games during the month of May...Had second and final four-hit game while again falling a triple shy of hitting for the cycle on 6/4 vs. Toledo...Was on the disabled list from 7/30 thru 8/20 with a left hamstring strain...Hit safely in each of his last nine games and in 20 of his final 21 contests...Had contract purchased by Cleveland on 9/1 following the conclusion of Buffalo's season...Went 3-for-5 with a triple, home run and three RBI in first start on 9/26 at Seattle...Made two starts at second base and one appearance at shortstop while playing with the Indians...Hit .315 (29-for-92) with a homer and 11 RBI in 26 games with Magallanes during the Venezuelan Winter League.

The La Guaira, Venezuela native spent the 2006 season at Triple A Durham in the Tampa Bay organization after signing with the Devil Rays in January...Hit .218 (50-229) with 8 2B, 2HR & 24RBI in 69 games for the Bulls after missing the first 2 months of the season after breaking a knuckle and undergoing surgery on his right hand in spring training...Season began on May 25...Played winter ball for Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League for 6 weeks in November/December where he hit .337 (35-104) in (8 2B, 5RBI, 6 SB) in 29 games.
2005
Split the season between the Twins and AAA Rochester...Began the season as the Twins' everyday second baseman, making his 5th consecutive opening day start...Batted only .195 April and lost his starting job to Nick Punto... Was optioned to Triple-A just after the All-Star break (7/16, when Minnesota acquired Bret Boone) after batting .250 with no home runs and 8 RBI...Spent a stint on the DL (6/1-17) with a left external oblique strain...Made 6 apps at shortstop (also appeared in 2 games there in 2000)...Recalled 9/6...Outrighted to Rochester, 10/4.
