Jonathan Thomas Coutlangus (pronounced COOT-lang-gus)...Graduated from Port St. Lucie (Fla.) High in 2000, where he was a 4-year letter winner.... was drafted by Milwaukee in the 33rd round but did not sign...Graduated from Indian River Community College in Fort Pierce, Fla., before attending the University of South Carolina... helped the Gamecocks reach the 2003 College World Series.
2008
After being acquired in a trade from the Cincinnati Reds on April 7 for Daniel Perales, he went 0-2 with a 12.71 ERA in only 5 relief appearances after missing most of the season because of left shoulder strain...Struck out 3 batters on April 15 at Sacramento in 1.2 innings, both season-highs...Tossed 1.0 inning on April 18 at Sacramento, suffering the loss, before being placed on the disabled list...Returned from the disabled list on Sept. 1 vs. Salt Lake City, tossing a perfect inning for the Sidewinders.
2007
In his Major League debut made 64 apps for the Reds, third on the staff behind David Weathers (70g) and Mike Stanton (69g)...among all National League rookies ranked third in apps...posted a 5.12era in his first 25 apps of the season and a 3.74era in his last 39 apps...had his best month in July, when he posted a 1.08era in 15 apps...began the season with the Reds and went 4-1, 3.93 in 57 apps before he was optioned to Louisville on 8/7...when optioned led the staff and ranked third in the National League in apps and led all NL rookie pitchers in apps...from 8/7-8/28 made 9 apps at Louisville (2-0, 6.35)...for the Bats allowed 5er in his first appearance (0ip) but posted a 2.38era in his last 8 apps prior to his 8/29 promotion... after he returned from Louisville posted an 8.31era in his last 7 apps for Cin...on 4/7 vs Pit made his Major League debut and retired both batters faced...struck out his first batter (Nate McLouth) to strand an inherited baserunner...in the 2-1 victory on 4/20 vs Hou threw a scoreless 10th inning for his first career win...was 1 of 10 Reds players to make Major League debuts in 2007 (OF Josh Hamilton, RHP Homer Bailey, RHP Jared Burton, RHP Brad Salmon, RHP Marcus McBeth, LHP Phil Dumatrait, RHP Tom Shearn, 1B/OF Joey Votto, C Ryan Hanigan)...in spring training led the staff with 12 apps.

At the end of spring training was claimed off waivers from the Giants...was optioned to Class AA Chattanooga and spent most of the season there...converted 9-10 save opps for the Lookouts...was selected to play in the Southern League All-Star Game...made his last 2 apps of the year, on 9/1 and 9/4, in relief for Class AAA Louisville...pitched for the Phoenix Desert Dogs in the prestigious Arizona Fall League and threw a perfect inning (1k) in the Rising Star Showcase all-star game (12g, 1-0-0, 2.70, 10ip, 11h, 5bb, 12k).
