John Philip Rheinecker was signed by A's scout Jim Pranski...graduated from Gibault Catholic High School (Waterloo, IL) in 1997...attended Belleville Area Community College and was drafted by the Seattle organization in 1998...did not sign and attended Southwest Missouri State...led the Missouri Valley Conference with a 2.85 ERA in 2000 and a 2.27 ERA in 2001...struck out 106 batters in 91 innings in 2001...was the A's third pick in the 2001 draft as he was selected as a compensation pick following the first round for the loss of free agent Kevin Appier to the New York Mets.

2006

Was 4-5 with a 6.03 ERA in 13 starts and 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA after moving into the bullpen late in the season...was 4-3 with a 3.96 ERA in his first nine starts...did not allow an earned run to score in his last four relief appearances...over his last 13 appearances/starts at the Major League level, he was 2-4 (27 ER/30 1/3 IP)...had three different stays with the Rangers...made 15 starts for Oklahoma (AAA), going 4-5 with 2.52 ERA, 68 strikeouts and 24 walks...prior to this season, he had made only 2 relief appearances in his professional career, both coming in the Minor Leagues.

2005

Was off to a great start at Triple-A Sacramento before tearing a tendon in his left middle finger in early May...went 4-0 with a 1.77 ERA in seven starts for the River Cats but was placed on the Disabled List on May 13 and missed the remainder of the season...did not allow a home run in 45.2 innings and held the opposition to a .181 opponents batting average and a .250 slugging percentage...his opponents average included a mark of .158 (19 for 120) against right-handed hitters and .250 (10 for 40) against left-handers...opponents average dropped to .171 (6 for 35) with runners in scoring position, including .133 (2 for 15) with RISP and two outs...had a 6.43 ERA (5 er in 7.0 ip) and .393 (11 for 28) opponents batting average in the first inning and a 0.93 ERA (4 er in 38.2 ip) and .136 (18 for 132) opponents average from the second inning on...the River Cats were 6-1 in his starting assignments...he tossed seven or more innings in five of his seven starts, allowed three runs or fewer in every start and walked two batters or fewer five times...was the Opening Day starter for Sacramento on April 7 against Portland and combined with Britt Reames on a 7-0 shutout...tossed a season high 8.0 innings and picked up the win in that game (3 h, 2 bb, 3 so)...struck out a season high six batters in 6.0 innings in his next start on April 12 against Tacoma...his only start under six innings came on April 17 at Portland when he allowed three runs in 3.0 innings but ended up with a no decision...tossed 7.0 shutout innings on April 28 against Tucson (3 h, 3 bb, 4 so) but ended up with a no decision in a 2-1 Sacramento win...his final start came on May 8 at Las Vegas when he did not walk a batter for the only time in 2005 (7.2 ip, 3 h, 3 r, 1 er, 5 so).

Began the season at Single-A Visalia but was promoted to Double-A Midland on May 20 after going 3-0 with a 2.31 ERA in nine starts...was a combined 10-7 with a 3.07 ERA in 29 games, all starts, with both clubs...ranked second in the A's organization in ERA and was fourth with 162 strikeouts...walked just 34 batters for a strikeout to walk ratio of 4.8 to 1...issued just 24 free passes in 128.0 innings at Midland, an average of 1.62 per nine innings which ranked second among Southern League starters...also ranked tied for second in the SL in shutouts (1), fifth in baserunners per nine innings among starters (11.81) and eighth in ERA (3.38)...was just 7-7 in his 20 starts with the Rockhounds...finished second on the Midland pitching staff in starts, innings and strikeouts (100) and tied for second in losses...overall, allowed a .258 opponents batting average, including .239 against left handed hitters and .227 with runners in scoring position...tossed at least six innings in 20 of his 29 starts, allowed two earned runs or fewer 17 times and walked one batter or fewer 21 times...began the year at Visalia and held left handed hitters to a .114 batting average...tossed 6.0 shutout innings in his first start on April 4 against Bakersfield for his first professional win (4 h, 7 so)...struck out a season high 11 in his second start on April 9 against Lake Elsinore...tossed eight shutout innings in his first Double-A start, a win on May 20 against San Antonio (4 h, 1 bb, 7 so)...tossed his first career complete game and shutout, a five-hitter in the Rockhounds 2-0 win against San Antonio on July 9 (1 bb, 3 so).

2001

Signed with the A's on June 30 but did not pitch immediately and was eventually placed on the Vancouver disabled list on July 20 with a strained left forearm...activated on July 29 and went 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA in six games, five starts...was promoted to Modesto on August 25 and made two starts, going 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA...combined at both stops for a 0-2 record and a 3.03 ERA in eight games, seven starts...allowed a .192 opponents batting average and just one home run in 32.2 innings...best outing came with Vancouver on August 16 against Salem-Keizer when he tossed a season high 6.2 shutout innings (2 h, 2 bb, 5 so).
