Joseph Paul Horgan...single...played one season of college ball at Sacramento City Junior College...in 1995, was a teammate of Brad Wilkerson's on USA Junior National Team that won title at Fenway Park...graduated from Cordova (CA) High...pitched, played 1B and in the outfield while in high school...is a big-time fan of the Sacramento Kings.

Acquired in a minor league trade in early May, had contract selected by the Expos on June 11 and became Frank Robinson's top left-handed reliever in first big league exposure...went 4-1 with 2 saves and a 3.15 ERA...12 holds ranked 2nd on the club behind only Luis Ayala (21)...limited opposing left-handed batters to an effective .235 mark, but was even better against right-handed hitters (.228)...in all, opposing batters hit just .230...upon arrival on June 11, appeared in more games than any pitcher other than Ayala...at season's end, was slated to return to the Dominican Winter League...excelled when pitching on consecutive days (zero days rest), posting a 1.38 ERA (2 ER/13.0 IP)...ERA on 2 or more days rest was 1.37 (3 ER/19.2 IP)...however, when working on one day rest, recorded a 11.05 ERA (9 ER/ 7.1 IP)...went 3-1 with a 0.40 ERA in June and July...allowed only one homer to a left-handed batter (Corey Patterson, September 7 at CHI)...Expos went 24-23 when Horgan pitched...suffered only one blown save: August 4 at STL...retired first batter faced in 36 of 47 appearances (77%)...pitched much better on the road (2.38 ERA, 2.13 including games in Puerto Rico) than in home games (4.91 ERA at Olympic Stadium)...worked at least 2.0 innings 5 times, including a season-long 2.2 scoreless innings, July 16 at ATL...pitched in 15 ballparks, but only allowed runs in 4 (The Big O, Citizens Bank Park, US Cellular Field and Wrigley Field)...strung together 14 consecutive scoreless appearances, spanning 10.1 innings, July 22-August 18. In minor leagues: Pitched in 3 Grapefruit League games for the Redbirds, but started season with Triple-A Memphis...posted a 6.52 ERA in 10 games with Memphis before being acquired by the Expos...went 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 13 games with Triple-A Edmonton before being summoned to the big leagues...walked one and fanned 9 in his 6 appearances with the Trappers. Game-By-Game Highlights: Retired all 6 batters faced, including Ichiro Suzuki, in big league debut, June 12 at SEA...earned first hold on June 16 vs. MIN...retired only batter faced-Jimmy Rollins-to notch first big league win in 6- 3 victory, June 30 at PHI...retired Reed Johnson-only batter faced-with bases loaded to pocket first big league save in 6-4 win vs. TOR in Puerto Rico, July 4...recorded 4th hold, as well as first career hit and RBI, in 4-0 win vs. PIT on July 10...singled off Kip Wells to score Jamey Carroll and cap the Expos' 3-run 7th inning...the hit came in his first career plate appearance...worked 12th inning, allowing one run, to earn 2nd save in 7-6 win, September 7 at CHI.
