Graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa, Calif., which is just north of San Francisco and just west of Sonoma Valley...Attended the same high school as his brother Scott, who pitched in the Majors in each of the last 11 seasons (2015-25)...Scott split this 2025 season between the Rockies and Giants organizations... while Scott was drafted out of high school (37th round by CIN) and college (sixth round by KC), Jason went undrafted out of high school and college, which started his roundabout route to the Major Leagues...Jason and Scott also have another brother that pitched professionally, Stuart (Stu), who was a 29th round pick by the Marlins in 2003...Stu pitched four seasons (2004, 2006, 2008-09) in the Minors, topping out in A ball...After high school, Jason attended Santa Rosa Junior College in 2013 and then Long Beach State in 2014... he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed two seasons (2015-16) before pitching his final collegiate year at Menlo College (2017), an NAIA program...went undrafted out of Menlo, but was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Angels after his season...Pitched three seasons in the Angels system (2017-19) before being released in 2020 in the midst of the canceled minor league season...was out of baseball for 10 months and thought his baseball career was over, working as a car salesman for Honda...Returned to affiliated baseball with the Marlins in 2021...would jump from the Marlins (2021), to the Brewers (2022-23), to the Red Sox (2024), to the A’s (2025) and finally the Astros in 2025...Relies heavily on his changeup, which he threw 32.7% of the time, which ranked as the seventh-highest percentage by a qualified pitcher in 2025...picked up 45 of his 65 strikeouts in 2025 on the changeup, while allowing a .193 opponent average on the pitch...Finished his 2025 season with one year and 134 days of Major League service...has used just one of his three option years.

2025

Spent the entire season with Triple-A Worcester in his first season in the Boston Red Sox farm system and went 7-6 with a 4.42 ERA and .726 opponents OPS in 29 games, including 27 starts...Struck out 129 batters in 138.1 innings and walked 39 for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.31...Tied for fourth in the international league in games started, ranked fifth in ERA, opponents batting average (.264) and innings pitched and tied for ninth in strikeouts...Led the Red Sox farm system in innings and games started and ranked third in strikeouts...Had minor league career highs in strikeouts, games, games started, innings pitched, hits(143) and walks...Held right-handed hitters to a .216 (63-for-291) batting average and .586 OPS...left-handers hit .320 (80-for-250) with a .890 OPS...Had a 6-5 record and a 4.20 ERA in his 27 starts...was 1-1 with an 8.22 ERA in two relief appearances...tossed 4.1 innings and 3.1 innings in his two relief outings...logged five innings or fewer in 21 of his 27 starts...As a starter, he had a .221 opponents batting average the first time through the lineup, .287 the second time and .281 the third time...Was 3-3 with a 3.79 ERA in 12 starts at home, 4-3 with a 4.90 ERA in 17 games on the road...Was 4-0 with a 1.51 ERA in seven appearances on six days rest or more, 3-6 with a 5.44 ERA in his other 22 appearances...Allowed a .339 batting average to the five hitter in the order.

2021

Went 1-1 with a 1.37 ERA in seven games (six starts) between Double-A Pensacola (1gs), Triple-A Jacksonville (5g, 4gs) and Rookie FCL Marlins (1gs) during his only season in the Marlins organization...held opponents to a .219 batting average...Missed most of the season with an injury to his right middle finger...Signed as a free agent with Milwaukee on 11/17 and was a non-roster invitee to 2022 Spring Training.
