Had impressive rookie season with Atlanta, finishing 12-6 with 3.42 ERA for most victories by Braves rookie pitcher since Craig McMurtry won 15 in 1983.

Spent majority of season with triple-A Richmond, and was club's Opening Day starter...was named International League's Pitcher of Week following dominating 3-start performance April 5-15 in which he did not allow run over 16.0 frames (9h,5bb,23so)...was leading IL in ERA (0.41) and strikeouts (30) when recalled to Atlanta April 25...in fact, 0.41 mark for April ranked 5th in all of minor leagues...made ML debut in relief April 26 at Arizona...pitched 3.0-innings of 1-hit, scoreless relief in 7-5 win over St. Louis May 6...overall, appeared in 4 games in relief before being placed on 15-day Disabled List May 11 with circulatory problem in left arm...made 3 appearances (2 starts) with single-A Greenville while on rehabilitation assignment, tossing 9.0 innings with 3.00 ERA...activated from DL and optioned to Richmond June 19...posted 4-4 mark with 4.05 ERA after returning to triple-A level...was on Disabled List Aug. 3-12 with gluteus maximus strain, missing 2 starts...recalled to Atlanta Sept. 1...only appearance after recall was 1st ML start Oct. 7 vs. Florida, in which he received no decision in 4-2 loss...during his 2 stints with Atlanta, held opponents to miniscule .097 batting avg. against (3-for-31).
2000
Was with Richmond for entire campaign...ranked 3rd in International League with 3.14 ERA, while placing 4th in strikeouts (123) and 5th in innings pitched (160.2)...tied for league lead with 28 starts...led circuit with 106 walks, ranking 3rd on Richmond franchise single-season list...posted 9-6 record while allowing 3 or fewer earned runs in 25 of his 28 starts...was R-Braves' sole selection to participate in Triple-A All-Star Game in Rochester July 12.
1999
Went winless in 12 starts for class-A Macon in return to action after missing all of 1998 because of bone spurs in left elbow...however, pitched better than record indicated, allowing only 33 hits in 41.2 innings pitched, with 15 walks and 49 strikeouts...participated in extended Spring Training until mid-May, then, after being activated from Disabled List, notched 4 solid starts in which he surrendered only 1 run on 7 hits while fanning 22 in 13.0 innings...promoted to double-A Greenville Aug. 1.
1998
Missed entire season while rehabilitating from 1997 arthroscopic surgery on left elbow (bone spurs)...underwent Tommy John surgery June 24.
1997
In 1st full year at double-A level, went 6-8 with 5.35 ERA in 21 games (19 starts)...fanned 116 batters in 112.2 innings, ranking 2nd in Southern League in strikeouts per 9.0 frames at 9.12...held left-handed batters to .213 batting avg. against...was placed on Disabled List May 2-11 with back spasms...was placed on Disabled List Aug. 6 and missed remainder of season after having arthroscopic surgery on left elbow.
1996
At age of 19, dominated Carolina League with 9-1 record and 2.25 ERA in 14 starts for single-A Durham...at time of promotion to Greenville June 19, led circuit in wins, ranked 2nd in strikeouts (89) and 3rd in ERA...had combined 3.36 ERA, 2nd-best in Braves' system, while his 11 combined wins were tied for 2nd in organization...selected to HOWE SportsData All-Teenager team...named to Carolina League All-Star team and tossed 2.0-scoreless innings in contest vs. California League.
1995
Went 9-10 with 3.56 ERA in 27 starts for Macon...ranked 4th among all minor league pitchers and tied for South Atlantic League lead with 177 strikeouts in 149.1 innings...had 2nd-best strikeouts-to-innings pitched ratio among all minor league hurlers at 10.67 punchouts per 9.0 frames.
1994
Began pro career in rookie ball with Danville...struck out 77 batters in 60.1 innings, allowing only 30 hits.
