2005
Spurling, who missed the entire 2004 season with Tommy John surgery, began the 2005 campaign at Triple-A Toledo before rejoining the Tigers on May 10. He went 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA over the first half of the season before giving up five runs, three on homers, in one-third of an inning July 18 at Chicago. He rebounded by posting a 2.73 ERA over his final 28 appearances. He tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings against Cleveland on August 5.

Missed the entire season after he underwent ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery in his right elbow on March 4...the procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, AL...Placed on the 60-day disabled list on April 2 with ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery in his right elbow.
