Raymond Payne (Chip) Ambres graduated from West Brook (Texas) High School in 1998...Was a *Baseball America* Second-Team All-American as a senior...Also was a quarterback in high school and signed a letter of intent to play for Texas A&M before signing with the Marlins...Rated the No. 1 scholastic quarterback in the state of Texas as a senior...Threw for 30 touchdowns and rushed for 15 touchdowns...As a baseball player, he hit .500 as a senior with 10 home runs.
2007
Delivered the game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning on July 22nd at Los Angeles in New York's 5-4 victory...Became the third Mets player whose first hit for the team produced a game-winning RBI in extra innings...The others: Tito Navarro (1992, his only Mets hit) and Jim Beauchamp (1972)...
