Spent most of the season with Class AAA Memphis in the St. Louis organization and appeared in one game with the White Sox before suffering a season-ending injury on 8/2. Was acquired by the Sox from the Cardinals in exchange for left-handed pitcher Zach Duke on 7/31. Was recalled from Class AAA Charlotte on 8/2 and made his major-league debut that night as the starting center fielder at Detroit … went 1-2, including his first major-league hit (single off Anibal Sanchez) before departing the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a torn left hamstring injury suffered chasing down a fly ball. Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 8/3 and underwent season-ending surgery to repair the hamstring on 8/4. Became the fifth Sox player to suffer an injury before or during his season debut, following OF Jason Coats, INF Matt Davidson, C Kevan Smith and OF Jason Coats. Appeared in 100 games with Memphis … was tied for eighth in the Pacific Coast League with eight triples at the time of the trade … hit .380 (38-100) vs. left-handers.
