Carlos Muniz graduated from Banning High School in Wilmington, CA...Played for two seasons at Los Angeles (CA) Harbor Junior College...Also spent two years at Long Beach (CA) State from 2002-2003...Went 3-3 with a 2.41 ERA in 49 appearances over the two seasons...In his first season with Long Beach State, he posted a team-best 1.52 ERA in 23 games, all in relief...In 23.2 innings, held opponents to a .216 batting average against...In 2003, he posted 11 saves with a 3.14 ERA as the closer for the Big West League Champions...Helped lead his team to the NCAA Super Regional before losing to Stanford to finish the season ranked ninth in the nation...Was an All- Big West Conference selection that season...Named the Big West Pitcher of the Week on March 17, 2003 after saving three wins against nationally ranked opponents without allowing a hit...At Long Beach, played with Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, Angels pitcher Jered Weaver, Blue Jays outfielder Jeremy Reed and former Red Sox pitcher Abe Alvarez.

His final appearance of the year was a 2.0 inning outing vs. Pawtucket on May 19th...Worked a season-high 3.0 innings vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on April 14th... Pitched 2.2 innings vs. Pawtucket on May 16th...Placed on the Disabled List on May 29th with a right shoulder strain...On September 18th, he underwent surgery in California to remove a bone chip in the back of his right shoulder joint...The operation was performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum.
