2007
Experienced the "sophomore jinx" as he endured a tough-luck 2-14 season. Became the first Cardinals pitcher to lose 10 straight games to begin a season since 1898 when Kid Carsey lost his first 10 games. (No Cardinal has lost his first 11 starts to begin a season). His 12-game losing streak from 9/8/06-6/27/07 tied a franchise record held by Bill Kissinger who lost a club-high 12-straight decisions from 1896-97...the last ML pitcher to lose 12-straight was Russ Ortiz (9/4/05-4/7/07) with ARI, BAL & SF...the last ML pitcher to lose 13-straight decisions was Jose Lima with Houston from 4/10-7/4/00. His .125 winning percentage tied for lowest in Cardinals history with Bill Kissinger, who also went 2-14 in 1896. Gave up all his runs in one inning in 11 of his 20 starts - went 1-10 in those starts. In 14 of his 20 starts the opposition scored all or all but one of their earned runs in a single inning. Allowed 15 HR in 20 starts, nine of which were multi-run homers. 33 of his 71 runs allowed (46%) came in the first two innings. Had 74 strikeouts in 107.1 IP and fanned four-or-more batters in 11 of 20 starts. The team scored 65 total runs in his 20 starts and only 34 while he was on the mound. Six of the Cards 12 shutout losses came in games started by Reyes. His 34 runs of support while on the mound was the lowest in the majors among pitchers with 20-or-more starts since 1989 when the Phillies Don Carman also received 34 runs. The only pitcher since 1974 to receive less total runs of support on the mound (20-or-more starts) is Don Baumgarten of the White Sox in 1980 (30 runs). His luck in the minors was just as frustrating. Made three starts 7/6-20 at Memphis (AAA) and had no-decisions in all three. In his last two starts, allowed just one run each through 12.0 total innings. Won three of five Grapefruit League starts (3-0) and allowed six earned runs in 20.0 innings pitched (2.70 ERA). Made his season debut on 4/7 at HOU and was on the losing end of 5-1 loss to Roy Oswalt & the Astros. Charged with third loss of the season in 6-0 shutout at CHI on 4/21. Reyes gave up a 3-run HR in the first to M. Barrett and one run in the 2nd before retiring 15 of his next 16 over 6.0 IP with five K's. Lost his fifth straight game of the season in a 4-0 shutout loss at MIL on 5/2. Pitched his first quality start of the season lasting 6.0 innings and surrendering four runs, three earned, while fanning a season high eight. Matched career highs with seven runs and nine hits allowed in an 8-7 loss at Detroit on 5/19. Dropped a 5-4 decision vs. WSH on 5/25 & was sent to Memphis two days later where he made three-straight quality starts for the Triple-A Redbirds. Won for the first time since Game 1 of 2006 World Series on 6/12 with a 2-1 victory vs. Nashville while at Triple-A Memphis, allowing just one run (solo HR) in 8.0 IP. Rain drowned out hopes of a win on 6/27 at NY when the game was called after 5.0 innings with the Mets up 2-0. Anthony allowed a two-run homer in the 1st to David Wright, but did not allow a hit the next 4.1 innings before the game was called. Used just 67 pitches to get through 6.0 IP and snapped his 12-game losing streak dating to 9/3/06 vs. PIT with a 5-2 win over MIL in 2nd game of split DH on 7/28...he allowed just two hits (one a solo HR) and walked just one. Allowed just one run in 7.0 IP on 8/7 vs. SD in matchup with Jake Peavy, but suffered his 11th loss, as Cards were blanked 4-0. His lone run allowed came in the 7th. Tossed 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while walking one and fanning five for his second win 8/12 vs. LA. Received 12 runs of support (10 when on the hill) in 12-2 win. Had first career RBI via a base hit in the 3rd inning. Gave up a grand slam in the 3rd to the Marlins' J. Willingham in a 11-3 loss 8/23. The four runs were the only ones allowed through 5.0 IP & were all unearned. Did not pitch in any of the Cardinals final 13 games. His final appearance was out of the bullpen on 9/17 vs. PHI, when he allowed five runs on three hits and three walks in 1.1 IP.
2006

Allowed one run on five hits in 6.0 IP...Took ND in Cards 4-3 loss at MIL on 9/18 as he matched his season/career strikeout high with nine...Had a K in each inning worked, including three in the 4th...Was recalled from Memphis (AAA) for his start on 9/3 and fanned a career high nine in 6-3 win over the Pirates. Worked 6.1 scoreless IP, allowing just four hits and threw 99 pitches, 69 for strikes...Won consecutive games for 1st time in ML career 8/5-10...Was optioned to Triple-A on 8/18 to make room for OF Preston Wilson on the 25-man roster...Made two starts at Memphis and went 2-0, 0.00 ERA (13.0 IP) earning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week honors...In his last M.L. start (8/16 vs. CIN) prior to being sent to Memphis, lasted 3.1 innings and allowed five runs on four hits...All five runs scored via three home runs (2 solos, one 3-run)...Tossed 5.0 shutout innings 8/10 at CIN, allowing two hits while walking two and hitting three batters in 6-1 win...Pitched 5.0 innings and allowed three runs on three hits while walking three and fanning six for his 3rd win 8/5 vs. MIL...Held MIL hitless through first 3.1 innings...Walked a career-high 5 batters in 4-2 loss at CHI on 7/29. Failed to record a strikeout for the first time in ML start...Surrendered a career-high six runs on nine hits in 7-0 loss at COL on 7/24 as Cards were held to a season-low two hits by Rockies' Jeff Francis...Snapped his 3-game losing streak 7/16 vs. LA with his first career win at St. Louis. He'd received just four runs of support in those three losses...Posted a no decision in his 7/8 start at HOU, a 7-6 10-inning win. Gave up four runs in 5.0 IP with one run in the first and three on a C. Biggio HR in the 5th...Allowed a five runs on six hits in a 6-3 loss at ATL on 7/3. Pitched 5.0 innings and gave up all five of his runs in a rain interrupted third inning (55 min. delay) and surrendered three home runs in that inning...Was charged with his second loss of the season 6/27 vs. CLE. Gave up a two-run home run to the second batter of the game (R. Belliard) but did not get any run support, leaving the game trailing 2-1 (3-1 loss)...Worked the Cardinals first complete game of the season 6/22 at CWS, posting the 23rd one-hitter in franchise history...however, the lone White Sox hit (one-out Jim Thome solo HR in 7th) led to a 1-0 defeat...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, that loss - while holding the opposition to just one hit - was the first by a Cardinals team since July 30, 1914 when they lost 2-1 to the Boston Braves on a one-hit CG performance by Cardinals pitcher Dan Griner...Started in place of injured Chris Carpenter on 5/30 vs. HOU and allowed three runs on just five hits in 6.1 IP, taking ND in the Cards' 6-3 loss. He fanned seven batters in that win, recording at least one strikeout in every inning...He also collected his first ML hit with a single in the 3rd inning off A. Pettitte...Filled in for the injured Sidney Ponson on 5/20 at Kansas City and earned the win, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings and allowing four hits in the Cards' 4-2 win...Started the season at Memphis and was the Redbirds Opening Day starter 4/6 at Oklahoma. Six of his 11 starts resulted in no decisions, with four of them one-run losses by the Redbirds...Drew starting assignment in Game 1 of World Series at Detroit, and made history by owning the fewest career wins (6) of any pitcher to start the opening game of the Series...was outstanding in his World Series debut, allowing a run on two hits and a walk in the first, then retired 17-straight Tigers before allowing another hit, a single in the 7th...allowed a lead-off homer in the 9th to Craig Monroe before leaving the game after 8.0+ IP (4H, 2R, BB, 4K) and just 90 pitches thrown as he posted a 7-2 win...had no-decision in NLCS Game 4 start vs. the Mets, a 12-5 loss...worked 4.0 innings and allowed two runs on three hits...both runs came as solo HRs in the 3rd inning...was not on the active roster for the DS vs. San Diego.
