2024
Posted career marks across the board in ’24, and his 60 regular season appearances were 10 more than 50 he made across his first five big league seasons (2019-23)...His career-high 12 holds T2nd-most in SD's pen w/ Jason Adam, trailing only Jeremiah Estrada's 16, and surpassed his previous high of five from 2022...Recorded the first two saves of his career, both in extra innings (Aug 7 @ PIT & Sept. 15 @ SF)...Ranked in the 90th-plus percentile in hard-hit % (93rd, 32.4%), fastball velocity (92nd, 97.2 mph) and avg exit velocity (91st, 86.6 mph)...also ranked in the 86th percentile in ground ball rate (51.4%) and 81st in chase rate (31.16%)...Allowed just one HR in the first half of the season, which came in his 21st appearance on June 17 @ PHI (two-run HR by Kyle Schwarber)…posted a 2.23 ERA (10 ER, 40.1 IP) and limited opponents to a .238 AVG and .629 OPS in his 32 first half appearances...three of his four HR allowed came in his 28 2nd half outings, when he posted a 3.86 ERA, .284 opponents’ AVG and .823 OPS...Allowed nearly the same AVG to LHH (.255) and RHH (.257), but he surrendered just 8 XBH (6 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR) to LHH compared to 15 XBH to RHH (11 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR)...The 60 first batters he's faced had a .196/.233/.286 slash line with 21 SO against 3 BB...With no runners on base, opponents hit .288...with runners on base, he limited opponents to a .219 clip, including .213 w/ RISP and .167 w/ RISP/2 out...Posted a 2-1 record and a 2.45 ERA in his 27 appearances at Petco Park, with just one HR allowed...in his 32 away outings, he posted a 3.21 ERA (12 ER, 33.2 IP) with three HR allowed...Did not allow an earned run in 45 of his 60 outings in ’24. Allowed 2 ER five times, which were the most he allowed in a single outing all season...Went scoreless in each of the five outings in which he tossed 2.0+ IP, allowing just 4 hits (.095 AVG) and a 0.47 WHIP in such outings...Posted the second double-digit scoreless-inning streak of his career with 10 straight scoreless frames from May 13-June 1, allowing just two hits (.063 AVG) and two walks with eight SO over the stretch...Pitched in eight consecutive wins from July 30-August 17...Allowed an ER (two on Sept. 11 @ SEA) in just one of his 11 September outings…following the Sept 11 appearance at SEA, closed the regular season with eight consecutive outings not allowing an ER...Including Postseason action, his 17 career appearances vs. LAD at the conclusion of '24 were the most he's made against any club - three more than his 13 vs. SF...Per Statcast, he relied on 5 pitches: sinker (36.0%), slider (30.4%), four-seamer (23.4%), split-finger (7.6%) and sweeper (2.6%) POSTSEASON: Did not pitch in the Wild Card round vs. ATL but was scoreless in one of his two NLDS appearances vs. LAD...tagged with the loss in G1 of the NLDS in relief of starter Dylan Cease in G1’s 7-5 defeat…tossed two scoreless frames in G4 in SD's 8-0 defeat vs. LAD.
2023
Made eight appearances (one start) for SD, allowing seven ER in 9.0 IP (7.00 ERA) with a 2.11 WHIP and .368 opponents’ AVG. Began the season on the 60-day IL (left elbow sprain) and made four rehab outings with Lake Elsinore (A) before being reinstated from the 60-day IL and optioned to ELP on June 6. Went 1-0 and posted a 1.29 ERA (1 ER, 7.0 IP) with a .222 opponents’ AVG across four relief outings for the Chihuahuas from June 7-18 before being recalled from ELP on June 21. Was scoreless across his first three app (2.1 IP) from June 21-24, allowing just one hit and two walks. Allowed a career-high-tying five hits and three ER on June 27 @ PIT in SD’s 9-4 defeat. Tossed 3.0 shutout frames for the third time in his career (first time since the 2020 campaign) on July 2 @ CIN. Allowed two runs in two of his final three outings from July 7-15 before being placed on the 15-day IL with right knee inflammation on July 16. Split a rehab stint between the Arizona Complex League and ELP from Aug 4-15 before being reinstated from the 15- day IL on Aug. 17 and optioned to ELP that same day, where he remained for the balance of the season. Per Statcast, he relied on four pitches: 4-Seam Fastball (57.8%), Slider (19.3%), Curveball (14.3%) and Changeup (8.7%) … he ranked in the 73rd percentile in fastball velocity (95.3 mph), but opponents hit .462 (12-26) against the pitch.
2022
Began the season on the 60-day IL recovering from Tommy John surgery...his rehab assignment included starts for Lake Elsinore (A) on May 10 (3.0 IP, 2 H, ER) and May 15 (0.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER) before making five scoreless rehab relief app. for San Antonio (AA) from May 19-June 1, allowing just allowing just one hit in 7.0 IP....Reinstated from the 60-day IL on June 6 and was recalled to the big league squad on June 7…made his season debut that same day vs. NYM, retiring all 6 batters he faced on 18 pitches and finishing off SD’s 7-0 shutout victory....Placed on the COVID-IL on June 11 and was reinstated on June 16…made 2 appearances before being placed on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation from June 23-July 13…made 2 scoreless rehab outings for El Paso (AAA) on July 7 and July 10....Posted a career-long 13.2 scoreless inning streak across his 10 appearances from Aug. 2-29, going 2-0 with 2 holds, a 12-3 SO/BB ratio and a .204 opp. AVG...it was the third longest scoreless inning streak out of the SD pen, behind only Tim Hill (18.0 IP) and Nick Martinez (15.0 IP). ...Made 26 relief appearances on the season and his 5 wins tied Nabil Crismatt and Robert Suarez for most in SD's pen....With runners in scoring position this season, he limited opposing batters to a .208 average (5-for-24)...with RISP/2 out, opponents were 1-for-11 (.091)....He inherited 10 runners on the season, and 0 of them scored...was one of only three relievers in '22 to have inherited 10+ runners and have a 0.0 IRS% (also: MIL's Matt Bush and MIN's Joe Smith)....Ranked in the 92nd percentile in fastball velocity (96.9 mph) and 96th in fastball spin rate (2,498 rpm)....Per Statcast, relied on his 4-Seamer 69.1 % of the time, his slider (13.7%), curveball (13%) and changeup (4.3%).
POSTSEASON: Made his fourth career Postseason app. in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series vs. NYM on Oct. 8 in the seventh inning and did not record an out in SD’s 7-3 defeat…he tied his career high (reg + post) with four ER allowed (five) along with two walks and two hits on 29 pitches (16 strikes)....Did not pitch in the NLDS vs. LAD but tossed a scoreless eighth inning in Game 4 on the NLCS vs. PHI on Oct. 22 in SD's 10-6 defeat, retiring three of the four batters he faced on 12 pitches.
2021
Made his 1st-career Opening Day roster as SD’s No. 5 starter and made two starts before undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery on April 20... Made the start on April 5 vs. SF, tossing 4.0 innings of two-run ball on two solo HR (Darin Ruf and Evan Longoria) in SD’s 3-2 defeat... Exited his start on April 11 @ TEX after just 16 pitches and 0.2 IP…placed on the 10-day IL the following day with a left forearm strain and was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 23.
2020
Began the season at the alternate training site before being recalled on Aug. 18 and remaining with the ML squad for the rest of '20...Made 4 starts (4.82 ERA, .216 AVG) and 5 relief outings (.450 ERA, .316 AVG)...Posted a career-high 6.0 scoreless IP across 3 outings from Aug. 31-Sept. 10, allowing 7 hits, 0 BB and 7 SO...The Padres were 5-0 in games in his 1st 5 appearances of the regular season before going 1-3 in the final 4 games in which he appeared...Relied on 4 pitches: sinker (56.2%), changeup (17.4%), curve (16.5%) and slider (9.9%)...opponents were 3-18 (.167) vs. his changeup with a 57.1 percent whiff rate...the 96.6 average mph on his sinker ranked in the 92nd percentile.
POSTSEASON: Made 2 scoreless relief outings vs. STL in Games 2 and 3 of the Wild Card series...retired 6 of the 7 batters he faced in Game 3's 4-0 bullpen shutout to advance to the NLDS...started Game 3 in the NLDS vs. LAD and was tagged with the loss in SD's 12-3 defeat, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2.
2019
Began the 2019 campaign in Amarillo (AA) where he went 0-4 with a 4.25 ERA (17 ER, 36.0 IP) in a career-high 16 starts with a .215 opponent AVG, 44 SO and 15 BB...The 20-year-old left-hander had his contract selected on July 21 and made his ML debut in a start against CHC at Wrigley Field that same day…allowed just 1 run (earned) on 3 hits in 2.1 IP with 1 SO…did not factor in the decision in what would eventually be a Padres’ 5-1 win...Became the 3rd player from the 2016 International Signing Class to make his ML debut, behind only RHP Elvis Luciano and INF/OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays...at 20 years, 144 days old, he became the 2ndyoungest Padre to making his pitching debut, behind only Jay Franklin at 18 years, 172 days old on September 4, 1971...At the time of his debut, Morejon was the 3rd-best pitching prospect in the Padres system (No. 4 overall) by MLB.com and No. 48 among all ML prospects...listed as an Honorable Mention in Keith Law’s midseason Top 50 prospects update during the All-Star break and entered 2019 rated as the No. 46 overall prospect by ESPN. com, No. 49 by MLB.com and No. 52 overall by Baseball America....Made his 1st ML relief appearance on July 25 at NYM, tossing 1.0 scoreless inning with 1 hit allowed and 1 SO... went on to make 2 more relief appearances in 2019...Made his 2nd-career start and his Petco Park debut on July 28 vs. SF (1.2 IP), 2 ER, 2 H, 3 BB) but did not factor into SD’s 7-6 loss...4 of his 5 ML appearances were on the road (6.1 IP)...Posted a 6.75 ERA with a .294 opponent AVG in 4.0 IP as a starter and a 13.50 ERA with a .455 opponent AVG in 4.0 IP as a reliever...Placed on the 10-Day IL on August 8 with a left shoulder impingement…was transferred to the 60-Day IL on Sept. 16 and missed the remainder of the season.
2018
Spent the majority of the season with Lake Elsinore (A), going 4-4 in 13 appearances (all starts) with the Storm and posting a 3.30 ERA (23 ER, 62.2 IP)...Made 2 stints on the 7-day DL, making 1 rehab start with AZL Padres 1 (R), working 2.2 IP and fanning 4...His 74 SO, 3.44 ERA and 65.1 IP between AZL 1 and LE set career highs in a single season.
2017
Split his 1st professional campaign between Tri-City (A) and Fort Wayne (A), making 13 appearances (all starts) while posting a 3.86 ERA (27 ER, 63.0 IP)...Began the season with TC, logging 35 SO against 3 BB in 35.1 innings of work for the Dust Devils...Made his 1st postseason appearance with FW, starting 2 games with a 8.22 ERA (7 ER, 7.2 IP) with 5 BB and 7 SO.
