Contract was purchased by the Mets from Reynosa of the Mexican League, March 28, 1999. Was signed by Fred Mazuca. Selected by the Reds in the first round of the Class AAA phase of the Rule 5 Draft, December 16, 2002.

Was 1 of 13 Reds players to make his Major League debut...at the beginning of the season was loaned to Monterrey of the Mexican League (50g, 1-1-2, 2.44), where he was a teammate of Danny Serafini...on 8/24 was returned to the Reds organization and finished the season at Louisville (4g, 0-0, 4.50)...was promoted from Louisville on 9/8 and that night vs Pit made his Major League debut (0.2ip, 3h, 3er, 1bb, 2k, 1hbp)...first strikeout victim was Josh Fogg...became the 57th player and 30th pitcher to appear for the Reds, extending both club records to their final totals...did not surrender a run in his last 4 apps of the season (6ip)...in consecutive apps on 9/12 and 9/13 at Chi was the victim of blown saves...would have been his first Major League victories...on 9/17 at Pit allowed the 199th home run by Reds pitchers (2-run by Matt Stairs), a new franchise single-season record...was the only homer he allowed all season...retired the first batter 7-11 times...stranded 2-5 inherited baserunners.
