He and his wife, Katie, have one son, Rocco (10/4/02)...is a 1996 graduate of Sheepshead Bay (NY) High School, where he played football and baseball...attended St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ...was originally signed by Philadelphia scout Sal Agostinelli.
2004
Rule 5 selection began Spring Training with Oakland, but was claimed off waivers by Boston on March 18...returned to Pittsburgh on March 31 and was assigned to Triple-A Nashville...began season in the bullpen and went 2-2 with one save and a 4.56 ERA (25.2 IP/13 ER) in 20 appearances...earned first save on May 10 at Oklahoma...made first start on June 1 vs. Iowa and did not surrender a run in 5.0 innings of work...made four starts before making back-to-back relief outings on June 20 and 23...made nine appearances (one start) during the month of July and went 3-0 with one save and a 1.15 ERA (15.2 IP/2 ER)...earned second save on July 15 at Omaha...went 4-2 with a 4.10 ERA (41.2 IP/19 ER) in 34 relief appearances and 2-1 with an identical 4.10 ERA (41.2 IP/19 ER) in eight starts...had contract purchased by Pittsburgh on Aug. 23...made his Major League debut on Aug. 27 vs. St. Louis and tossed 1.0 scoreless frame...allowed one run in first six appearances (9.2 IP)...limited opponents to a .094 average (3-for-32) in first six outings... made his first career start and lost on Sept. 13 at Chicago...fanned a careerhigh five batters and allowed three runs in season-high 4.0 innings of relief on Sept. 24 vs. Cincinnati...grounded out to second base in lone plate appearance... held batters to a .175 average (10-for-57) pitching in relief.
