Bruce Tanner is in his fifth season as the Pirates Bullpen Coach. He was named to his current position on November 6, 2000. Now in his 12th season with the Pittsburgh organization, Tanner began his association with the club as Pitching Coach with Augusta (A) in 1994. After two years with Augusta, Tanner was also Pitching Coach with Carolina (AA), Nashville (AAA) and Altoona (AA) before joining the big-league coaching staff. Bruce, the son of former Bucco skipper Chuck Tanner, was originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 4th round of the 1983 June draft and went 1-2 with a 5.33 ERA in 10 major league games (four starts) with the ChiSox. He won his lone big-league game in his debut on 6/12/85. Tanner also spent time as a player in the Oakland, San Francisco and San Diego farm systems. Following his playing days, Bruce served as a Pitching Coach in the San Diego farm system for four years with Spokane (1990), Charleston (1991), High Desert (1992) and Rancho Cucamonga (1993).
