Full name WILLIAM JOSEPH CUNNANE ... Is a 1992 graduate of Clarkstown North High School in New City, NY ... Played baseball and ran cross country.
1997
Appeared in his first 54 M.L. games for the Padres after being selected in the December 1996 Rule 5 draft ... Went 6-3 with a 5.81 ERA...Made his M.L. debut April 3, working 2.0 scoreless innings against New York...Recorded his first victory May 7 in a 6-3 contest against the Cubs...Earned his first win as a starter May 30 at Houston (9-2) in his first M.L. start...In the contest, he went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI - including a 2-run triple...Went 5-for-14 at the plate...Picked up his first M.L. hit May 19 off Cincinnati's Mike Remlinger.
1998
Spent most of the campaign at Las Vegas (AAA), going 1-2 with a 5.25 ERA in 33 relief outings...Opened the year on the disabled list with a strained right elbow and was out of action until early June...Had a brief stint with the Padres June 22-July 6, pitching in 3 games.
