Drew is entering his second full year under the baseball operations side of the San Francisco Giants organization assisting Dr. Shana Alexander and Dr. Emily Cheatum in the mental health & wellness department. He is in charge of creating a Peer Support Program throughout the organization to help players & staff start their own conversations regarding their mental and emotional wellbeing.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, NV, Drew signed his first professional player contract with the Texas Rangers out of high school and went on to play parts of 12 seasons with Rangers, Cardinals and Giants while spending parts of 3 seasons at the major league level. In February of 2020, he and ESPN released an E60 documentary on his survived suicide attempt and eventual comeback to professional baseball after losing his right eye in his incident, in hopes to create awareness and end the stigma surrounding mental health. He hopes his story will help people share his passion to be vulnerable with different self-care techniques to avoid getting to the headspace he experienced that lead to his attempt.
Dr. Shana Alexander Director Mental Health & Wellness, & EAP Dr. Shana Alexander enters her fourth year with the San Francisco Giants as the Director of Mental Health & Wellness & EAP, where she is responsible for both on and off the field mental health needs and performance enhancement of players and staff.
Alexander earned her bachelor’s degree from UC Davis and her master’s and Doctorate at Argosy University in the Bay Area, CA. She was trained as a generalist but specializes in sport and health psychology. Alexander has also worked internationally in Sydney, Australia and in many other diverse settings. She was born in Lawrence, KS but calls Northern California home.
Jordan is a public speaker who discusses the mental health issues and disorders that affect so many of us. He is a survivor of a suicide attempt during his senior year in high school and shares his powerful story of fighting depression and finding recovery.
Jordan has been with Minding Your Mind since 2008 and holds the distinction of being our first young adult speaker. He is a survivor of a suicide attempt during his senior year in high school. Jordan speaks on mental health and suicide, sharing his powerful story of fighting depression and finding recovery. In 2008 he addressed a Congressional briefing on Capitol Hill and in 2013 he was invited to the White House for the National Conference on Mental Health, hosted by President Obama and Vice President Biden. Jordan has received numerous accolades for his work in mental health advocacy and has been profiled by Sports Illustrated, PEOPLE Magazine and USA Today. His piece, “Unbreakable,” for ESPN’s E:60 was nominated for an Emmy, and Jordan was interviewed by Anderson Cooper for the 2018 CNN special, “Finding Hope: Battling America’s Suicide Crisis.”
Jordan recently wrote a letter to his 18-year-old self. It included this message that he now shares with thousands of students every year, “Please just live for today because I promise tomorrow, and each day after, will get a little better.” His presentation is meant to inspire, educate and allow others to know they’re not alone.
As Phillies Ambassador, Scott is involved in various aspects of the club, including fan engagement and Phillies Charities, Inc. He also can be found at the podium, hosting news conferences and other special events for the organization.
In 2016, Scott was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, which honors the lifetime sports contributions of Pennsylvanians. Scott is also a proud member of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia.
Prior to joining the Phillies in 2005, Scott was an anchor and sportscaster at WPVI-6ABC in Philadelphia for over 24 years.
Dr. James is the founder and CEO of George Talks, LLC, a communication and consulting company. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist, executive coach, corporate & media consultant, relationship & parenting expert, and mental health ambassador. In addition, he is an Assistant Professor for the Couple and Family Therapy Program at Thomas Jefferson University. He has spoken and consulted with multiple businesses, media production companies, organizations, universities, and places of faith.
Dr. James has been a recurring expert guest on radio, television, podcasts, and online programs including The TODAY Show (12+ appearances), CBS Mornings, CNBC, Nickelodeon, NBC News Daily, NBC News Now, Home & Family (Hallmark), Good Day LA, Good Day Philadelphia, iHeartradio, and many others. He is the host of LEAPCAST podcast where he speaks with Leaders, Entertainers, Athletes & Performers. He works extensively with professional athletes, entertainers, adult men and women, executives, couples, and young adult men on various issues, including adulting, career, anxiety, work-life balance, love life, leadership, parenting, depression, and communication.
Dr. James has done extensive consulting work (including script & project review, facilitation of difficult conversations, content & resource development, advice on mental health, relationships, parenting, family, race/culture, and the intersection of these topics) with companies including Paramount Global (Nickelodeon/Nick Jr), Google, Wavelength Productions, and others.
Dr. James attended Villanova University as a Presidential Scholar where he met his wife, Candace. They are parents to their creative & inspiring children, Nalani, and Alexander.
