Phillies Female Leaders Celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day with Two Special Events
On Wednesday, February 7, the Phillies Youth Baseball & Softball Development team, along with female leaders from the team’s front office, Phillies Ballgirls and special guests, celebrated National Girls & Women in Sports Day with two special events.
In the morning, more than 160 second graders joined the Phillies for a fun-filled Play Ball clinic, encouraging young girls and boys to get into the game. Each student took part in various drills, led by the Phillies Ballgirls and staff.
Later that evening, more than 75 female athletes, aged 13-18 from the Phillies MLB Urban Youth Academy and Nike RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) programs, as well as coaches and parents, gathered in the media room to go behind the scenes with industry leaders including NBC reporter Ashlyn Sullivan; Sports Medicine Specialist with the Bone & Joint Institute Dr. Michelle A. Noreski; University of Pennsylvania Athletic Operations Coordinator Camryn Glenn; and Athletes Unlimited Director of Marketing Kerrie Kortmann McClure.
National Girls & Women in Sports Day began in 1987 as a special day in the nation's capital to recognize women's sports. The day unites premiere organizations and elite female athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports.
