MacPhail reflects on past, talks Philly's future

June 26th, 2018

As both the son and grandson of Hall of Fame baseball executives, a career in MLB front offices may have felt preordained for Andy MacPhail. Preordained, that is, right until he was dismissed by the Expos before even starting his first job.
MacPhail recovered from that early setback to work for six teams, including the 1987 and '91 World Series champion Twins and the Sammy Sosa-led '98 Cubs. Now the Phillies president, he recently sat down on Executive Access with MLB.com's Mark Feinsand to explain how he created the first player option to sign Jack Morris, why he still regrets trading Tom Brunansky for Tom Herr and what Philadelphia fans can expect in the years to come.

On Executive Access, Feinsand provides a unique look at the people building Major League teams by engaging in candid interviews with front-office personnel from around MLB. Each week, you'll find out how they broke into the game, why they do what they do and how they envision the future of baseball. Look out for new episodes on Tuesdays.
