Rey Mysterio gifts Padres custom Lucha Libre masks
MEXICO CITY – The Padres rolled into Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú on Saturday morning and were greeted with a fitting gift for MLB’s first regular-season series in Mexico City.
Prior to the opening game of the Mexico City Series between the Padres and Giants on Saturday, all San Diego players were gifted a Lucha Libre mask in City Connect colors at their lockers, courtesy of legendary Mexican-American wrestler Rey Mysterio.
"They hooked us up here," third baseman Manny Machado told MLB Network. "We got here, we got to our locker, we got a gift. Rey Mysterio hooked us up with these special edition City Connect Mexican masks. These are pretty dope."
Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. were among the Padres who rocked the masks on the field briefly before the game. Machado opened the scoring in the first when he doubled and came around to score on Nelson Cruz's single.
