LATEST NEWS

Aug. 31: RHP optioned to Triple-A El Paso; RHP recalled from Triple-A
One night after Reynolds struck out five in 1 2/3 innings in the Padres' 13-5 win over the Rays, the rookie right-hander was optioned to the Minors for the third time this season. San Diego's No. 19 prospect, Reynolds has leaned on his 97 mph four-seamer and power slider to record 21 strikeouts through 11 innings. He has allowed only one run and owns a .145 expected batting average.

Jacob, the Padres' No. 16 prospect, has permitted one run, four hits and one walk across 6 1/3 frames with San Diego this season. The sideamer has 13 K's, eight of which have come on his changeup.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP (left groin strain, right elbow inflammation)
Expected return:
Mid-September
Darvish threw four innings in a controlled game environment at the team's Spring Training complex in Peoria, Ariz., against Reds Minor Leaguers on Aug. 30. He faced 18 batters, threw 66 pitches and reported after the outing that he felt well. Manager Mike Shildt said reports on how Darvish threw "were very favorable." The veteran right-hander's next step would presumably be a rehab start. Darvish was reinstated from the restricted list on Aug. 23, with the club subsequently returning him to the IL. Darvish was dealing with groin and elbow injuries earlier this season, but he says those injuries have subsided and that his placement on the IL is strictly "a matter of ramping up." SS (right shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: Early September
The Padres were originally hopeful that Kim would return after his minimum stint on the IL, but his absence has lasted beyond those 10 days. On Aug. 29, Kim flew to Arizona to receive live at-bats at the team's Spring Training complex. He's been playing catch, taking grounders and swinging in the batting cage, but manager Mike Shildt said on Aug. 31 that Kim has not yet begun throwing across the diamond. (Last updated: Aug. 31)

RHP (right elbow tendinitis)
Expected return: September
Kolek spent some time rehabbing at the team's complex in Peoria, Ariz., before rejoining the club in San Diego in mid-August. He has been able to play catch, but he has yet to throw off a mound as of Aug. 30. Kolek, a Rule 5 Draft selection, has a 5.21 ERA in 42 appearances this season. (Last updated: Aug. 30)

LHP (left adductor strain)
Expected return: Early September
Peralta is an obvious candidate to be activated when rosters expand on Sept. 1. He made his second rehab appearance with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Aug. 27, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless frames with a strikeout and an intentional walk. It's possible Peralta would require another rehab outing or two, but his return to the big league club isn't far off. The veteran left-hander posted a 4.50 ERA across 41 outings in the first half. 60-DAY INJURED LIST

OF (right femoral stress reaction)
Expected return:
Early September
At long last, the Padres have a timetable for Tatis' return -- though they aren't sharing it publicly. When the team left for its road trip, Tatis headed to the Padres' Spring Training complex in Peoria, Ariz., where he has been receiving at-bats against live pitching. Tatis had spent the previous homestand ramping up. He went through a series of sprints in the outfield and took batting practice on the field with the team for the first time. Manager Mike Shildt said on Aug. 31 that Tatis could return to action without going on a rehab assignment. (Last updated: Aug. 31)

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: 2025
Patiño underwent Tommy John surgery on April 30, putting an end to his 2024 season before it began. The 24-year-old made two appearances in Spring Training before opening the season on the IL. The Padres, who originally signed Patiño as an amateur free agent before dealing him to Tampa Bay in the 2020 Blake Snell trade, claimed Patiño off waivers from the White Sox in December.
