4th annual Draft Combine to be held at Chase Field next month
Major League Baseball on Tuesday officially announced details for the 2024 MLB Draft Combine, which will take place from June 18-23. The Draft Combine will be hosted at Chase Field in Phoenix, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, for a second consecutive year. The inaugural Draft Combine in 2021 was held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, while San Diego’s Petco Park, home of the Padres, hosted the event in 2022.
The 2023 Draft Combine grew significantly following the impact of the 2022 event as 298 Draft-eligible players attended the Combine (+23% vs. 2022) and 39 of the top 50 Draft selections participated in Combine events (+22% vs. 2022). In addition, 75 of the top 100 picks in the MLB Draft were Combine attendees (+17% vs. 2022), while 217 of the 298 Combine attendees overall were selected in the MLB Draft (72.8%), compared to 172 of 243 in 2022 (70.8%). Combine participation again increased across the board in 2023 in each of the five assessment categories (Club interviews; medical; vision; on-field; and strength and conditioning). As the Combine continues to grow, the event’s impact is being felt across the game with 16 previous Combine participants already on a 40-man roster, and all 16 having made their Major League debuts as of May 21, 2024.
