Domínguez, Jones homer in same game for Double-A Somerset

@alyssam_gomezWhile the Yankees stand atop the American League East standings with an already star-studded lineup, the rumblings from future stars could be heard at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night.
The Yankees' top two prospects -- Jasson Domínguez (MLB’s No. 31) and Spencer Jones (No. 68) -- each mashed a long ball across three-hit performances. On the back of four homers in total, Double-A Somerset secured a 13-5 win over Bowie.
Anthony Seigler, the team's first-round pick in 2018, also contributed with his first two-homer game since July 27, 2021.
Domínguez, the club’s top prospect, started the year on the injured list after he went underwent Tommy John surgery in 2023. He returned to in-game action on May 14 with Single-A Tampa and has been sizzling hot at the plate ever since with a .977 OPS in 12 games between Tampa and Somerset.
The 21-year-old has also mashed three home runs over the past week with Somerset, including a two-run drive off lefty Ryan Hennen (Orioles) in the bottom of the seventh for his third hit of the game. He also added an RBI single in the second and added another knock in the sixth.
“I feel really good,” Domínguez said to reporters in Somerset. “The progression has been great. We’re going day by day, and every day, I feel better.”
The rehab assignment of “The Martian” is set to expire on Monday, and the current plan is for him to not immediately return to the Majors. In eight games with the Yankees last season, Domínguez posted a .980 OPS with four home runs, including his epic first big league roundtripper off Justin Verlander.
“I can’t control that,” said Domínguez of potentially returning to the Bronx. “I’m just playing, making my progress and when the time comes, we will see what happens.”
Jones, the second-ranked Yankees prospect, started the season hot, despite suffering from neck stiffness. However, in the month of May, the 23-year-old cooled down, batting .146 with a .426 OPS prior to Friday’s contest.
The Yankees' 2022 first-rounder cranked a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning off right-hander Ryan Long as part of his three-hit night, adding singles in the sixth and seventh innings. It was his first long ball since April 23 and his first multihit game since May 11.
