Ranking the Cards' Commercials
The St. Louis Cardinals have really stepped their game up with their TV spots for the 2012 MLB season. The Cards are engaging their fans by asking that they view all 10 of the commercials and rank them in order of their favorites from #10 to #1. You can watch them all here.
It was tough to rank all of these great spots, but I have watched all of them and here are my rankings:
#10 – “Metal Detector” What can I say? Sometimes there should be security exceptions!
#9 – “Shower” For all of you Fredbird fans out there, here’s a little insight into what living with this jovial mascot would be like.
#8 – “Bingo” This is about one of the only times you will see a pitcher excited to see a ball leave the park.
#7 – “Twitterer” As talented as he is, you can’t expect Waino to do everything on his own. He’s got a comeback to make.
#6 – “Uniform” For some odd reason, Queen’s “We are the Champions” seems to come in my mind every time I see this commercial.
#5 – “Voodoo Head” It doesn’t quite carry the power of Pedro Cerrano’s Jobu, but this David Freese bobblehead seems to come in pretty handy for youngsters Descalso, Garcia, and Jay.
#4 – “Scarecrow” Owl bet Fredbird will have a lot more celebratory dance chances this season. You see what I did there?...
#3 – “Bird Call” This video gives us great insight into the personality of this year’s Cardinals bullpen. These pitchers, which include Boggs, Lynn, McClellan, Motte and Rzepczynski, were a part of the much-maligned Cardinals bullpen throughout much of last season. However, it was the camaraderie and support of the bullpen that gave the Cards a lift throughout their unbelievable championship run. This group has really banded together, and they have used humor to help with that. Also, any time Fredbird is involved, there is always the opportunity for comedy!
#2 – “Gloves” This video stars Skip Schumaker and Allen Craig, two of the Cardinal super-utility players. Both of these guys have been asked to play a multitude of positions for the Cards at different times during their careers; so, they must always be prepared with a whole host of gloves. In this video, we get to see just how prepared Skip is in the event he is asked to do just about anything.
#1 – “Confetti” Most of the other nine videos are comedic in nature, but this one speaks to the heart of any Cardinal fan that hung on long enough to experience the craziest championship ride in the history of baseball (maybe even the history of sports). The confetti from last October’s celebration has long since been cleared away, but the memories of the Cardinals’ most improbable and unbelievable championship run still resonate loudly throughout Cardinal Nation. We can only hope that they have even more confetti to clean up come Octoter. “The storybook ending was just the beginning”... #12in12
