Texas Rangers add INF Adam Rosales to active roster
OF Engel Beltre optioned to Triple-A Round Rock
Rosales was received on waiver claim yesterday; seeking Rangers debut
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers have added infielder Adam Rosales (#9) to the 25-man roster after he reported to the club today. To make room on the active roster for Rosales, the club has optioned outfielder Engel Beltre to Triple-A Round Rock.
Yesterday marked the second time that Texas has received Rosales on a waiver claim in a span of 10 days. The Rangers claimed him from Oakland on August 2 and added him to the active roster that day. Rosales was active for 3 games but did not see any action and was designated for assignment on August 5. He was claimed by Oakland on August 8 and played in one game for the A’s, going 0-for-1 as a pinch-runner and shortstop on August 9 at Toronto. He was designated for assignment by Oakland on August 10.
Rosales, 30, is batting .191 (26-136) with 5 doubles, 4 homers and 8 RBI in 51 games/34 starts with Oakland in 2013. The right-handed batter has seen action at shortstop (36 games/33 starts), second base (13 games), third base (2 games/1 start), and left field (1 game).
He opened 2013 on the disabled list with a strained left intercostal muscle and went 6-for-12 with a homer in 3 games on rehab assignment at Single-A Stockton before being activated on April 25. Rosales was designated for assignment on July 8 and outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on July 12. He batted .211 with 6 RBI in 9 games for the River Cats before rejoining Oakland on July 24. Rosales was 0-for-5 in 2 games before he was designated for assignment for the first time by the A’s on July 31.
Beltre has batted .278 with a double and 2 RBI in 17 games over two stints with Texas this season, his first major league action. He was with the club from June 23-Aug. 1 and Aug. 5 through yesterday.
The Rangers have a full 40-man roster.
