Arcia to miss time with stiffness in back

MINNEAPOLIS -- Outfielder Oswaldo Arcia was held out of the lineup against the Tigers on Tuesday with stiffness in his back.

Arcia, who sustained the injury on a swing-and-miss in the sixth inning of Monday's 8-6 loss to Detroit, is expected to also miss Wednesday's game as a precautionary measure before Thursday's off-day. He arrived at the ballpark on Tuesday feeling better, but the Twins don't want to risk him re-injuring his back.

"He came in today actually saying that he thinks he's OK," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "But the trainers wanted to give him a day here and see how he's doing tomorrow, and then we have a day off after that. So we'll let the trainers dictate what we can do here."

With Arcia out, Aaron Hicks made the start in right field. Arcia, 23, is hitting .231/.304/.456 with 18 homers, 15 doubles, three triples and 52 RBIs in 93 games this season.
