Mets farmhand Tapia works seven scoreless
Right-hander Domingo Tapia, the Mets' No. 13 prospect, threw seven scoreless innings on Wednesday as Class A Advanced St. Lucie defeated Brevard County, 3-2.
Tapia struck out one batter and scattered three hits and three walks in his longest outing of the season. He induced 13 ground-ball outs and three double plays.
In nine starts this year, Tapia is 2-4 with a 3.74 ERA. He has struck out 20 batters and walked 22 in 45 2/3 innings.
Outfielder Brandon Nimmo, ranked No. 100 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, was back in the lineup on Wednesday, despite leaving Tuesday night's game in the third inning due to a sprained left ankle. The Mets' No. 4 prospect played center field in his return and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored.
Nimmo, the 13th overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, is hitting .339 and leads the Florida State League with a .943 on-base plus slugging percentage in 52 games this season.
