Surprise Phillies ‘Go Gold’ extreme room makeover for six-year old super fan

September 6, 2024

What a great surprise for six-year-old super fan Rosie McKenna – thanks to the Phanatic, Phillies front office and J Foundation!

As part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the team’s Give Back Employee Volunteer program, more than two dozen members of the Phillies front office visited the home of Rosie McKenna in Havertown, Pa., who is battling brain cancer. While Rosie and her two sisters, Daniella, 11, and Elizabeth, 7, were away at school, the Phils went to work transforming the girls’ bedrooms during a Phillies extreme room makeover, which included painting, redecorating and adding lots of Phillies flare for these young super fans.

When Rosie and her two sisters returned home from school they found the Phillie Phanatic waiting for them at the kitchen table, as well as their family, friends and Phillies volunteers, who were there to witness the big reveal. Also there were representatives from the J Foundation (a non-profit whose vision is to provide the best quality of life for children battling life limiting illnesses), who initially told the Phillies about Rosie.

After jerseys and gifts were presented to Rosie and her sisters, the Phillie Phanatic managed to squeeze himself up the stair well to show them their newly-decorated room. The result: lots of happy smiles for the McKenna family!
