Brewers Unveil Tosa Community Mural

3:24 PM EDT

This August, the Milwaukee Brewers unveiled “Field of Play,” the second mural installed as part of the Brewers renowned #BeyondTheDiamond community engagement efforts.

Wauwatosa families and children gathered outside of Little Village Play Café, a coffee shop and indoor play place, as Brewers President – Business Operations Rick Schlesinger, pitcher Bryan Hudson and Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride presented the thoughtful new community mural.

“Field of Play” promotes teamwork, togetherness, belonging and community – similar ingredients to a baseball team.

“It’s really important that the Brewers get to engage in the community,” Hudson said. “The painting is really awesome. Play hard, go team. Those are things we do every single day out on the field.”

The Wauwatosa community mural was painted by Whitney Nettles, a Milwaukee native and the owner of Wit and Co. Nettles specializes in hand lettering and typography, branding and illustration.

Nettles put her finishing touches on the mural, finishing an eye of one of the Famous Racing Sausages, and kicked off the celebratory activities.

Hudson joined the kiddos in a slime class, creating their very own Brewers themed slime and even adding a touch of sand that came straight from the infield of American Family Field.

Local youth were able to create their own custom baseball trading cards with their picture on one side and features of the mural on the other. Additionally, kids could stop by a pennant station to design art that was then installed at J. Leinenkugel’s Barrel Yard at American Family Field.

Smiles were shining on all faces throughout the unveiling with kids enjoying ice cream and the array of activities. Perhaps the biggest smile could be found on pitcher Bryan Hudson enjoying his slime creation.

“We hope they have fun here and we hope that this establishment becomes a great beacon for the community, inspiring people to think of teamwork, being curious and playing hard,” Schlesinger said.
