Brewers Families Host Inaugural Pawgent

11:13 AM EDT

Hot dogs, the classic baseball staple, looked a little different at the ballpark on Saturday, September 7 when Brewers Families hosted the first ever Pawgeant. Pups came to Helfaer Field from all around the city of Milwaukee to see just who the hottest dog was, determined by a special panel of judges including Brewers left fielder Christian Yelich, pitcher Trevor Megill and third basemen Joey Ortiz.

While pups came to show off their skills and cuteness, the inaugural Pawgeant was an impactful one with all proceeds benefitting the Wisconsin Humane Society, a nonprofit organization that works to make a difference for animals through adoption and foster programs, affordable vaccination and medical services, rehabilitation and more. Brewers Families raised more than $5,000 to aid the Wisconsin Human Society mission.

More than 27 canines competed in the Pawgeant including nine pups from the Humane Society of Wisconsin and four dogs from Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADAAC) as part of the Brewers commitment to support the adoption of pups in need of homes.

Pups competed in both Pose or Trick and Costume categories with judges taking into consideration the complexity of the skill, originality, creativity, and of course, cuteness.

From butterflies to princesses to lots of Brewers gear, all four-legged friends came dressed to impress. With a variety of skills, these pups made the Brewers player judges’ decision hard to make.

Yelich, Megill and Ortiz came to a final decision and crowned the hottest dog title to Mollie, a Husky-Beagle mix decked out in a helmet and goggles showing off her handstand skills.

The morning was certainly a tail-wagging event for all furry friends and handlers enjoying the Saturday morning with the Brewers.

Special judge Joey Ortiz even took home his own pup, adopting one from the Wisconsin Humane Society.
