LOS ANGELES -- The All-Star Game red carpet won’t officially roll out until Tuesday, but that didn’t stop American League All-Star manager Dusty Baker from getting a head start on the competition for best dressed.

Taking the stage behind Centerfield Plaza at Dodger Stadium for Monday’s All-Star Game press conference, Baker was dressed to the nines in a snazzy burgundy tailored suit he had designed specifically for this year’s Midsummer Classic. But the dapper dressing on the AL side wasn’t limited to just the Astros' skipper.

In advance of the All-Star Game, Baker purchased custom suits for his entire coaching staff, ensuring that each member made their grand arrival to L.A. looking fresh from head to toe.

“I wanted my coaching staff to be clean,” Baker said. “Most of them probably never made enough money to have a tailor-made suit, so I made suits for them with matching slacks and whatever they wanted to pick.”

Universally respected throughout baseball, Baker’s generosity has been well-documented over his illustrious career, both as a player and manager. So Monday’s kind gesture really just falls in line with that track record.

“I was always raised in the church as, ‘He who waters gets watered themselves,’” Baker said. “Be generous to others and the lord and people tend to be generous to you.”

Now, even though Baker does appear to have a heart of gold, there is a limit he has for himself. Asked if the suit-buying extended down to his players, Baker quipped: “I’m not making that kind of money.”
