Dodgers continue to expand scouting department

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers continued the expansion of their scouting department Tuesday with eight changes to the professional and international staffs.

The club will use a pair of advance scouts, promoting Willie Fraser, who was a professional scout, and hiring longtime White Sox scout Gary Pellant.

Also on the professional side, Chris Smith returns to the organization after four seasons with Cleveland, and will join newcomers Ron Mahay, Peter Bergeron and Greg Booker. Mahay, a pitcher with 14 Major League seasons, was in the Dodgers' Minor League camp in 2011; Bergeron was an original Dodger fourth-round pick who was traded with Ted Lilly to Montreal in the Carlos Perez trade; Booker is a former big-league pitcher who spent the last four years as pitching coach for Washington's Triple-A club at Syracuse.

In addition, special assistants to player personnel Josh Bard and Aaron Sele will have their duties expanded to include pro scouting.

On the international side, the club hired Hidenori Sueyoshi as Senior Manager, International Scouting Operations, Rafael Colon as Special Advisor, International Player Performance and Juan Garcia-Puig as a scout for Spain.
