Bergeron spent most of his year with AAA-Ottawa... After starting the season with the Expos was optioned to the Lynx on May 7... At the major-league level, from Opening Day on, played 31 games with the Expos, batting just .187 (23x123) with seven RBI and 24 runs... With the Lynx, batted .291 (99x340) in 104 games, splitting most of his time at the left and center field positions... Hit one HR and added 29 RBI while scoring 51 runs... Enjoyed his greatest success with the Lynx in June, batting .337 (30x89), including his only HR of the season, along with 11 RBI and 16 runs – both season highs for a month... Took part in 53 games in left field, 46 in centerfield and four in right field.

Bergeron played through ups and downs during the 2001 season in his second year in the majors... Enjoyed success at the plate while also battling disappointing stretches... Starred defensively on a routine basis, patrolling the centerfield position on a daily basis... Played a total of 102 games with Montreal during the season, hitting .211 (79x375), adding three HR, 16 RBI and 53 runs... Spent a portion of the season in AAA-Ottawa, being optioned down April 25 and being recalled June 23... Banged off a career-high 19-game hitting streak with the Expos July 1-23, tying him for the third-longest streak in franchise history... Tied career highs for most hits and RBI in a game.
- SLOW START: Began the season with the Expos, playing 20 games... Hit .121 (8x66) with one double, one HR, one RBI and 10 runs before being optioned to AAA-Ottawa April 25...

Broke his previous personal best of seven games, set twice before (last, September 4-11, 2000)... His streak of 19 consecutive games with a hit tied the third-longest streak in team history... Tied the mark set by Warren Cromartie (April 7-May 1, 1979) and Andre Dawson (July 17-August 4, 1980)... Was the fourth-longest streak in the NL during the season.

- HOMER AT HOME: Hit a solo homer in the home opener April 6, belting a 3-1 pitch by the Mets' Brian Rose in the fourth inning of a 10-6 Expos' win...
- MULTI-MAN: Rapped out four consecutive multi-hit games July 4-7... Hit 12-for-20 (.600) in that stretch, hitting two RBI and scoring 7 runs... Increased his totals rapidly, collecting two, three, three and four hits, respectively, in the four games...
- TRIPLE THREAT: Tripled off Ryan Dempster September 17 in a 10-6 loss vs the Marins... Marked his second straight game with a triple... Finished the season second on the Expos with four triples, tied with Vladimir Guerrero and two behind Orlando Cabrera's six...
- IN THE MINORS: Batted .238 (49x206) in 52 games with the AAA-Ottawa Lynx... Hit five doubles and three triples, while driving in eight runs and scoring 29 times... Hit .291 (23x79) in 21 games in June, hitting four doubles, four RBI and collecting 13 runs.

Bergeron quietly put together a solid rookie campaign while establishing himself as one of the top young CF in the game... Went along with his business and finished among the NL Top 10 in 14 different rookie categories... Led in OF assists (NL leader with 16) and triples; 2nd in runs (80); 3rd in BA (.245), hits (127), total bases (181), stolen bases (11), walks (58), OBP (.320), SLG (.349) and extra-base hits (37); 4th in multi-hit games (30); 8th in HR (5) & RBI (31)... Became the 4th Expos rookie to start in CF Opening Day: Marquis Grissom in 1990, Andre Dawson in 1977 & Don Hahn in 1969.
- FOR THE RECORD: Became the first freshman to lead the NL in outfield assists since Florida's Mark Kotsay, who had 20 in 1998 (tied with Atlanta's Andruw Jones)... Bergeron set an Expos rookie record, surpassing the previous mark of 12 set by Ellis Valentine (1976) and Larry Walker (1990).
- LEADING IT OFF: His 482 plate appearances from the lead-off slot was the most by a NL rookie since Giants Marvin Benard with 537 in 1996... Led off 102 games and made 102 starts in CF, 26 in left.

Bergeron, a future candidate for the lead-off spot, showed his patience at the plate and flashed his quickness in his brief stint with the Expos after having his contract purchased on September 7 from the AAA Ottawa Lynx... Scored 12 runs in 12 starts in left field with the help of 11 hits (two doubles) and nine walks... Appeared in 16 games and batted second 11 times... Made his Major League debut the night of his call-up vs the Rockies and went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored while reaching base four times... His first hit was a solid single in the 8th inning off Jerry Dipoto... Hit safely in his first four games from September 7-10, going 5-for-13 with three walks and four runs scored... Collected his first RBI on September 13 at L.A., grounding out to second base... Went 2-for-4 vs Kevin Brown on September 14 in a 3-0 win at Dodger Stadium... Scored three runs on October 2 at Philadelphia... After suffering through bouts of shoulder tendinitis most of the season, he underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test on September 21 at Jupiter Medical Center... Underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder on October 6 at Montreal's St. Mary's Hospital... The surgery, which was performed by Dr. Larry Coughlin, showed a slight rotator cuff tear... Spent part of the offseason rehabilitating at the Expos Jupiter complex with strength and conditioning coordinator Sean Cunningham.
Bergeron started the season at AA Harrisburg where he batted .327 in 42 games... Moved up to AAA Ottawa on May 28 where he batted .314 in 58 games... Batted .322 (58-for-180) in 44 games as the Lynx lead-off man... Batted a combined .320 (114-for-356) in 100 games in the Minors... Was limited to pinch-hit and designated hitter duties from August 5-27 due to right shoulder tendinitis... Won the silver medal as a member of the U.S. team in the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg from July 25-August 2 along with Harrisburg's Milton Bradley... Harrisburg's Jeremy Ware was the other Expos representative, playing for team Canada... Batted .217 (5-for-23), double, RBI, four walks and a stolen base in the tournament... Played in the inaugural Future Stars Game at Fenway Park on July 11... The game, which was part of the All-Star Game festivities, featured the best young players in the game from North America vs the best players from the rest of the World... Walked in his only plate appearance... Joined five other Expos who made their debuts at the age of 21: Michael Barrett ('98) Jeremy Powell ('98), Javier Vazquez ('98), Ugueth Urbina ('95) and Rondell White ('93)... Vladimir Guerrero was 20 when he made his debut in September 1996.

Bergeron, who was named the Dodgers 11th-best prospect coming into the 1998 season by
Baseball America, was playing for the Dodgers AA team in San Antonio when he was traded to Montreal... Was the third youngest player at the Double-A All-Star game... Named Best Defensive Outfielder in Texas League by
Baseball America in mid-season managers poll... A line-drive hitter, was hitting .317 with eight homers, 54 RBIs and 33 stolen bases at the time of the trade... Joined Harrisburg and contributed to the Senators third consecutive Eastern League championship... Played in the Arizona Fall League... A polished bunter, had 44 infield hits among his 165 hits.
