July 31: Orioles 5, Tigers 2 -- Means goes six strong
The Orioles are playing well in the second half, and it's based on the performance of their starting rotation. The unit struggled mightily in the first half, completing six innings just 16 times in the club's first 91 games. But Orioles starters have now completed at least six innings in six of their past 12 contests, the latest example coming from John Means. Baltimore is 8-4 in that stretch.

July 30: Orioles 4, Tigers 3 -- Career-high scoreless streak
How about the roll Matt Harvey is on? Harvey extended his scoreless-inning streak to a career-high 18 1/3 by twirling 6 1/3 shutout frames. It was his third straight start of at least six shutout innings, making him the seventh pitcher in Orioles history to accomplish that feat. The last to do it was Kevin Gausman in 2016.

July 29: Tigers 6, Orioles 2 -- Might want to avoid Miggy
With the Trade Deadline looming, the Orioles dropped their series opener in Detroit, during which Miguel Cabrera hit career home runs No. 496 and No. 497. They were the 23rd and 24th career homers for the future Hall of Famer against the Orioles, his fifth most against any club. The Orioles are the only non-American League Central team in the top five.

July 28: Orioles 8, Marlins 7 -- Offense stays hot
The Orioles are 7-4 since the All-Star break on the strength of their offense, which stormed back from five - and two-run deficits to claim Wednesday's walk-off win. Aiding that effort were home runs from Trey Mancini and Pedro Severino. It was the sixth straight game in which the O's hit multiple homers, their longest stretch since homering two or more times in 10 straight games from July 17-27, 2019.

July 27: Marlins 7, Orioles 3 -- Don't try to overpower Mullins
Cedric Mullins hit his 17th homer of the season, a solo shot in the sixth inning off a 98.8 mph fastball from Sandy Alcantara. Mullins has six hits, two of them homers, off pitches 98-plus mph this season. Only the Tigers' Jonathan Schoop (eight) entered the day with more.

July 25: Orioles 5, Nationals 4 -- How sweep it is!
The Orioles stormed back against Nationals closer Brad Hand to capture a walk-off win on Sunday, completing their first three-game home sweep of Washington since June 25-27, 2010. The Orioles have won nine of the 16 season series between the teams since the Nationals moved to Washington in 2005.

July 24: Orioles 5, Nationals 3 -- Harvey twirls vintage gem
It was vintage Matt Harvey on the mound for the Orioles in Saturday's win over the Nationals. Logging six one-hit innings while striking out four and walking none, Harvey registered his first start of six shutout innings and one hit or fewer since May 7, 2013, against the White Sox as a member of the Mets. He also earned his first victory over the Nationals since May 2015. He’d been 0-7 with a 6.10 ERA in his last 12 appearances (11 starts) vs. Washington.

July 23: Orioles 6, Nationals 1 -- Valaika goes yard twice
The Orioles were powered by their middle infield in Friday's win over the Nationals. Pat Valaika provided punch from the bottom of the lineup, connecting for solo home runs off Patrick Corbin in the fifth and Wander Suero in the seventh. Valaika achieved his second career multi-homer game, and first since May 14, 2017, against the Dodgers while with the Rockies.

July 21: Rays 5, Orioles 4 -- Wells representing Australia
Logging 5 2/3 solid innings in his first Major League start, rookie left-hander Alexander Wells pitched well before the Orioles dropped Wednesday's series finale in walk-off fashion to the Rays. Wells became the second Australia native to start a Major League game this season (the other being Twins lefty Lewis Thorpe) and the first to start for the Orioles since Damian Moss in 2003. Wells is a native of Newcastle, Australia, signing with the Orioles for $300,000 as an international free agent in 2015.

July 20: Rays 9, Orioles 3 -- Means shaky in return
The five earned runs John Means allowed in his return to the mound were his most since July 30, 2020, a span of 23 starts including that game and Tuesday's outing. Means suffered his third straight losing decision dating back to May 29, after going undefeated in his first 10 starts of the year.

July 19: Orioles 6, Rays 1 -- Watkins stays perfect
Holding the Rays to one run across six innings, 28-year-old rookie Spenser Watkins made his latest case to remain in the Orioles' rotation. The effort improved Watkins to 2-0 with 1.65 ERA -- 1.76 as a starter -- through his first four big league appearaneces (three starts). Watkins became the Orioles' first rookie to post an ERA that low through three starts since Dean Kremer, who had a 1.69 ERA in his first three starts down the stretch in 2020.

July 18: Orioles 5, Royals 0 -- Urías piling up RBIs
Ramón Urías knocked in two runs in the final two games of the series at Kauffman Stadium -- including a two-run single off Carlos Hernández in the third inning in the rubber match. It marked the first time in the rookie's career that he recorded consecutive multi-RBI games.

July 17: Orioles 8, Royals 4 -- Mancini's first triple
Trey Mancini smacked his first triple of the season in the fourth inning. The ball traveled a Statcast-projected 391 feet, leaving his bat at 102.5 mph. It was the slugger's first triple since June 12, 2019. The hit ended a career-long 175-game drought without a three-base hit.

July 16: Royals 9, Orioles 2 -- Valdez goes 3 strong
César Valdez, in his 28th appearance of the season, tossed three scoreless innings. This marked the first time this season the reliever recorded nine outs for the O's. Valdez put up zeros for the first time since June 9 -- he allowed at least one run in 10 of his previous 14 outings (since May 11), after not allowing a run in 10 of his first 13 appearances this season.

July 11: White Sox 7, Orioles 5 (10 innings) -- Trey's Derby practice
Down most of the afternoon, the O's forced extra innings against the White Sox on Sunday thanks to Trey Mancini's two-out, two-run ninth-inning homer off closer Liam Hendriks. Despite Baltimore's eventual loss, Mancini now owns the last two game-tying homers at home when the O's were down to their last out. He did the same against the Pirates on June 7, 2017.

July 10: White Sox 8, Orioles 3 -- Rotation struggles continue
The Orioles' rotation struggles continued in Saturday's loss to the White Sox, when starter Thomas Eshelman lasted only two-plus innings, allowing four earned runs. The Orioles' rotation ERA is 6.16 one day before the All-Star break. That would be tied for the 12th-highest rotation ERA at the break ever, and highest in MLB since the 2004 Colorado Rockies (also 6.16).

July 9: White Sox 12, Orioles 1 -- Free passes prove costly
The Orioles issued eight walks during their loss to the White Sox on Friday. It wasn't the first time they struggled commanding the baseball in recent weeks. Friday marked the Orioles' ninth game this season with seven or more walks, which ranks fourth most among AL clubs. Incredibly, they are 4-5 in those contests. The seven walks by Oriole relievers on Friday tied for the second most in a single game in franchise history. They also walked seven earlier this year on June 28 at Houston, in a game they ultimately won, 9-7.

July 7: Blue Jays 10, Orioles 2 -- Harvey hit hard again
Matt Harvey's season-long struggles continued as he allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings in the middle game of this series. His ERA sits at 7.70 through 18 starts -- the highest for a big league pitcher in his first 18 starts of a season since Orioles righty Chris Tillman in 2017 (8.08). Before Tillman, the last pitcher to do it was Hideo Nomo for the Dodgers in 2004. Tillman and Harvey are the only pitchers with such spans in Orioles franchise history.

July 6: Orioles 7, Blue Jays 5 -- Eutaw Street milestone
Helping rookie right-hander Spenser Watkins claim his first Major League win Tuesday was Anthony Santander, who crushed a two-run homer during Baltimore's five-run fifth. Santander's 431-foot homer reached Eutaw Street, making him the 50th Orioles player to do so in the history of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. It was the fourth time Santander has done so in his career, and the second time an Oriole did so this season. The other? Cedric Mullins on April 26.

July 4: Angels 6, Orioles 5 -- Fourth of July woes
Playing on Independence Day hasn't gone Baltimore’s way the last few years. With a loss to the Angels, the Orioles’ losing streak on the 4th extended to six.

July 3: Angels 4, Orioles 1 -- López's rough 2021
Jorge López’s tough season continued against the Angels, as he lost his 11th game in his 17th start. He’s the first Orioles pitcher to reach 11 losses in 17 starts since 2018, when Alex Cobb dropped 12 decisions.

July 2: Angels 8, Orioles 7 -- Hays' hitting streak
With a single in the third inning against the Angels, Austin Hays extended his hitting streak to a career-best nine straight games. In that span, Hays has batted .412 in 34 at-bats and has hit two homers and two doubles, scored six runs and driven in nine runs.
