Pipeline Preview: Fisher looks to extend hitting streak
Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Derek Fisher (Astros' No. 4), Fresno at Oklahoma City (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Fisher extended his hitting streak to 15 games on Friday with his eighth homer of the season for Triple-A Fresno. The No. 75 overall prospect is hitting .394 (26-for-66) with five home runs and 14 RBIs during his streak, which has boosted his season average from .254 to .326.
Pitcher to watch: Brandon Woodruff (Brewers' No. 8), Colorado Springs vs. Sacramento (8 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Woodruff, 24, will attempt to become the second pitcher in the Minor Leagues to six wins this season, as he enters the day with a 5-0 record through six starts for Triple-A Colorado Springs. The right-hander has pitched to a 1.83 ERA in that span, with a 0.96 WHIP and 30 strikeouts over 34 1/3 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
Duel of the day: Luke Weaver (Cardinals' No. 3) vs. Dinelson Lamet (Padres' No. 10), Memphis vs. El Paso (7:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Weaver, ranked 60th on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, has yet to allow an earned run in two starts for Triple-A Memphis since his return from the disabled list. The 23-year-old righty won both outings, surrendering just seven hits and zero walks while punching out nine in 13 innings.
Lamet, meanwhile, rebounded nicely in his most recent start for El Paso, allowing just one run with six strikeouts in four innings after he was tagged for a season-worst six runs in his previous turn. For the season, the 24-year-old righty owns a 2.48 ERA in six starts, during which he's racked up 38 strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a .194 clip.
