Mets sign RHP Dylan Covey

FLUSHING, N.Y., October 31, 2024 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has signed RHP Dylan Covey to a one-year major league contract.

The 33-year-old spent the 2024 season in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, appearing at three minor league levels while recovering from a right shoulder strain. In 18 appearances among three minor league affiliates, Covey went 0-2 with a 2.66 ERA (6 ER/20.1 IP) with nine walks and 19 strikeouts.

The Glendale, CA native has appeared in 100 major league games across five seasons with the White Sox, Red Sox, Dodgers and Phillies. He last saw major league action in 2023, splitting the season between the Dodgers and Phillies. In 29 games (one start), Covey went 1-3 with a 3.77 ERA (18 ER/43.0 IP) with 17 walks and 30 strikeouts. In 54 career appearances as a reliever, Covey is 2-5 with a 4.33 ERA (43 ER/89.1 IP) with 33 walks and 60 strikeouts. He owns a 7-32 record with a 6.18 ERA (211 ER/307.1IP) with 133 walks and 214 strikeouts.

The righty pitched overseas from 2021-22 with Rakuten of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. In two seasons in Taiwan, Covey made 33 starts, going 16-10 with a 3.63 ERA (80 ER/198.1 IP) with 67 walks and 138 strikeouts.

The 6-1, 215-pounder began his professional career in the Oakland Athletics organization after he was selected in the fourth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of San Diego.
