Conforto's stellar grab is Play of the Week
Mets outfielder Michael Conforto’s spectacular over-the-shoulder leaping catch against the Orioles on Wednesday has earned him the Play of the Week Award presented by Chevrolet.
With the bases loaded and the O’s leading 6-5 in the top of the sixth inning, Baltimore’s Rio Ruiz hit a two-out drive directly over Conforto’s head in right field that threatened to break the game open. But Conforto kept the ball in his sights, jumped and made a full-extension grab over his shoulder to end the inning.
According to Statcast, the play had a Catch Probability of only 20% -- a five-star catch -- as Conforto needed to cover 78 feet in 4.9 seconds.
The Mets went on to win, 7-6, tying the game on Andrés Giménez’s solo homer in the bottom of the sixth and pulling ahead on Pete Alonso’s blast in the bottom of the eighth.
