NEW YORK -- Perhaps the most intimidating thing is that Yoenis Cespedes says he doesn't even feel quite right just yet.
Cespedes continued his career-long torment of the Phillies on Wednesday, bashing a two-run homer in the first inning of the Mets' 4-2 win  at Citi Field. Careening a projected 405 feet off the facing of the second deck in left field, the home run was Cespedes' 15th in 38 career games against the Phillies. Cespedes has also scored 33 runs against Philadelphia and driven home 36, and he has at least one hit in four of the Mets' first five games.
Two of those have been home runs, but Cespedes says the Mets' disjointed early-season schedule -- their first eight flips of the calendar have included a snow day, a rain delay and a scheduled off-day -- has prevented him from rounding into midseason form. He's batting .278 with a 1.018 OPS in five games.
"So far, I've been lucky to hit two home runs in five games," Cespedes said through an interpreter. "We've had a couple of days off and my timing is still a little bit lost."
Cespedes hopes he'll find it beginning Thursday in Washington, though he won't place any additional importance on the Mets' upcoming three-game series against the defending National League East champions.
"We've got to go on the field and win every series against every team," Cespedes said. "That's our duty."
