The Mets announced Tuesday that they've signed left-hander Hector Santiago to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training.
Santiago had a 4.50 ERA in 49 appearances for the White Sox last season with 103 strikeouts in 102 innings, pitching mainly out of the bullpen.
Santiago adds veteran depth to the Mets' roster. If he has a strong showing this spring and makes the team, he could provide extra flexibility for the pitching staff. The 31-year-old spent most of his career as a starter before converting to a reliever in 2018.
Santiago's best season came with the Angels in 2015, when he earned his only career All-Star nod and finished with a 3.59 ERA and 162 strikeouts in 180 2/3 innings. He owns a 4.83 ERA across three seasons since then.
