Twin bill awaits as Mets move within 1 win of postseason

September 29th, 2024

MILWAUKEE -- In Game 160 of their season, the Mets ensured there will be a Game 161.

Their 5-0 win over the Brewers at American Family Field on Sunday made certain that no matter what else happens around the league, the Mets will play their scheduled doubleheader against the Braves on Monday, needing one win to qualify for the playoffs.

If they play like they did on Sunday afternoon, they’ll be in fine shape. David Peterson saved one of the best games of his career for a time when the Mets desperately needed it, blanking the Brewers over seven innings. Francisco Lindor homered and stole two bases to back him, while Francisco Alvarez finished with two hits and two RBIs.

If the Mets win one of their two games in Atlanta on Monday, they will clinch a playoff berth and travel back to Milwaukee for the Wild Card Series beginning Tuesday. If they sweep the doubleheader, they will earn the No. 5 seed and travel to San Diego. If they lose both, they’ll be eliminated and head home for the winter.
